"I just deleted 2 more people for spamming), Loz got 1 early today for spamming"

What does that mean?

Spamming is like those emails you receive telling you where you can buy cheap drugs and stuff, in other words it's just like Junk Mail.

In spite of the fact that the forum rules prohibit posting links for commercial purposes, some people join for the sole purpose of placing an "ad" to their web sites. Usually they join and place an ad (i.e. "I found this great site where I can buy earthworm castings") and are never seen again.

We poof the ads right away and try to give these people the benefit of the doubt, but normally they are poofed shortly after their ads... After a while the spammers get pretty easy to identify. (which is why I tend to lurk and watch the IP addresses of people passing through...)

Well there are a few things to look for.

1. See if the user just signed up today.

2. Look at how many posts they made.

3. Look at there spelling, if they spell things like "hack0r", "h4cker", "h4x0r" instead of "hacker", it is probably some kid looking for trouble.

4. They like to post links and when you follow them they are sites selling Viagra, porn, or male enhancements devices.

A lot of these sites may have exploits, Active X controls or bad javascript on them. Another thing they like to do is track your IP address, and target you for even more spam. Most people don't know a thing about Internet Security, and if the hacker can find your IP address he can come back and try to break into your computer.

Wasn't it funny how his new posts were answering or responding to all of his td guy posts??? nutz
Just exactly like a troll. All they want is attention, and they think their post are the ,ost interesting, so of course they respond to them. Ugh.
The forum I used to help moderate had about 3 trolls just like that. I got so sick of constantly looking for them and deleting after them and doing damage control. Then on Christmas Day one year they staged an attack on the whole site. I forget what they call it, but it's where they just constantly bombard the site with crap... The admin was so ticked off they ruined his Christmas that he shut down the whole site for over a week.

Once again, Bill and all you wonderful hostesses-- thanks for your vigilance. smile
