I had quite a time about 4 years ago tracking down a keystroke logger that was installed on my Win98 box.

I had to download a packet sniffer to see what was going on, my PC decided it wanted to upload some of my data to the Internet.

My Virus Scanner and Firewall both stopped working at the some time, and the connection got real slow.

It took me 3 or 4 nights before I found it, I installed a different Firewall, and something wanted to access the Internet.I just renamed it and from xxxx.exe to xxxx.txt, that way it couldn't execute. And that stopped it.

Downloaded a different virus scanner and bingo, it was a new version of subseven.

That was when I dumped Windows based Firewalls.

This happened to me a while back. My husband went where he didn't belong and we got some kind of virus. I had AVG anti-virus at the time. It wouldn't let me even get on the internet. I am so dumb about computers that I couldn't figure it out. Had to take it in and have everything taken off and reloaded.

By the time I got through cussin' and screaming my husband was glad to pay the bill.

When I still running Win98 I could wipe and restall Windows, and be back on-line in less than 2 hours.

Win2000 takes a bit longer.

Okay, I've run Ad-Aware SE and it helped, but there are a few things it can't delete. I've got spybot, but I haven't run it.
Yeah, I had CoolWebSearch infect my system once, I don't remember all the steps I had to take to get rid of it, but Ad-Aware helped a lot.
One of the things Ad-Aware lists that it's not deleting is called win32trojaninstaller or some such.
I'm having intermittent boot failures, failures to get online, etc. I'll report back if I can when I get this all fixed.

This darn thing keeps slowly taking control of my computer again, and I have to knock it back. I have a friend who's going to help me kill it once and for all. Man, I hate it that this kind of stuff is out there.

That's the big reason I use Linux, I had 10 copies of 'Netsky' in my email last year and not a one of them did a thing to me.

I'm not saying Linux can't get Virii, but Windows has around 100,000 and counting, and Linux has maybe 100, all of those have been stopped.

I do run antivirus software, but it's not to protect me, it's to protect you.

I have a question about the failed to get on the internet and getting disconnected time and time again in succession. I have that going on, on my computer and just figured it was netzero being lazy. Is that a virus too?

I am running the slow http rather than the .1 because of a glitch in the second to last update to IE from windows. Does anyone know if the last one fixed what ever when wrong with the one before that?

I'll bet that didn't make any sense at all.
