One really effective method for repelling slugs (which isn't covered on this website) is the use of caffeine.

A study in Christchurch, New Zealand has discovered that high concentrations of caffeine kill slugs and snails, and low concentrations repells them.

Instead of putting my coffee grounds into the compost I spread them straight onto the earth around my slug prone plants. When i have a large crop that needs protecting i get extra grounds from cafes.
This works so well that my plants are never touched by slugs and snails, as long as i keep applying my morning coffee scraps to the beds. My spinach is a particularly deep green as well, as it thrives on the high nitrogen content of coffee. If you need a cheap, quick fix(!), instant coffee can be made up at the concentration you would drink it and sprayed liberally over plants in danger, however, this only lasts until the next rain.
Hope somebody finds this useful.
xxoo janet.

Thanks for the tip Rhodes! I will have to try it on my Salvia. They've been having a bad time this year with the slugs and wet weather.

Excellent idea...will add this to my notes.

Another method is to place a bowl into the ground with the rim of it at ground level. Fill to 3/4 full with beer. The slugs love beer. They get in but cannot get back out.

I also saw a gardener use copper strips around her rose bushes. Seem slugs will not cross over copper. At least that is what she told me and she did not have a slug problem.

Hey I was in our local Dollar General the other day and they had a slug house for sale....like a little frog house but with slug house written on top of it.......I thought, slug house!!!! No way, give me a slug prison mad ......

I've heard that oat bran works too, but I still haven't tried it yet....keep meaning to but I always forget to buy some. There used to be a post that had it in there, but I can't find it to link to, must have been deleted....

So, let me get this straight.. put my coffee grounds out around my garden area, or my leftover coffee, or both?

LOZ!!! A SLUG house!
I must have one! laugh

We have about 10 Dollar General stores in this town. One of them is bound to have that slug house!

I can put it right outside my door with a sign on top of it that says "SLUG BAR" so my friends who like to make fun of me for the little beer incident can get another good laugh!
