Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to overwinter my gold fish in a pond that is 18 inches deep? I am planning on covering my pond with a plactic tent, (A) style, to keep the snow out and also using a pond heater. I will take all the plants out. I am in zone 5b. Last year I overwintered my fish inside and the pond froze solid. Any help would be appreciated........Wayne Duh

18 inches is mighty shallow. frown I think most suggest 3 feet or more if you are going to leave fish in the pond and you live in an area that the pond would ice over.

Our pond is only 18"-22" & we half to bring our fish inside for the winter. The pond freezes up like a solid brick of ice. We wouldnt take the chance on a pond heater, here in sub zero temps in North Dakota. zone 3-4. We keep them in a 100 gal.pre/form, with a pump & filter & they do just fine. Weve done this now for 4/yrs. We have 2 HUGE KOI & lots of Goldfish. Good Luck!! Razen
