Hi there smile It's nice to meet you. We have one cat, a black & white domestic long-hair, and his name is Sam. He is 15 years old but he behaves like he's still a kitty. Oh, he sleeps a lot - but he still loves to play. A year ago he had a scare with sudden pancreatitis - this is being helped by diet (prescription diet, by Hills) and it's made all the difference in the world.

We had a beautiful white lab, Maggie, who was put to sleep in 1998 due to illness. frown We miss her so very much. Our other dog, Bailey, a chocolate lab/springer spaniel mix, was also put to sleep in 2002. I miss her vibrant personality.

As tempted as I am to get another dog or a kitten, I know that Sam's just not ready to have to deal with another pet in the house. We won't be getting another animal until Sam is gone. frown I can't even think about that!

I'd love another kitten - or a small dog. My husband and I would like to travel and a big dog wouldn't travel well in an A-4 Audi! lol So a little lap dog would be wonderful, if we go that route. But... I'm a sucker for kittens & cats, so who knows.

My children have had gerbils in the past - we've also had fish and birds. So we love animals, that's for sure!

Again - it's nice to meet you. wavey

Our Jasmine is a black lab not quite two years old. She is certainly a hand full We also have six siamese cats that rule the roost! When we got the dog, the cats took refuge in the basement. It took us 6 days to get them out of the rafters laugh Now.. we all fit on a king size bed!

Hi everybody,

I adore cats but have an animal-hating landlord, so at the moment I have two guinea pigs (they're easier to hide) called Shadow and Tango. They're full of personality and do this little "guinea pig dance routine" when I come home from work.

I have 3 cats, siblings I took in from a stray at the warehouse where I work. They are a little over a year old. 1 male, Patches, and 2 females, Tiger & Midnight. That's the extent of my pets for now. Well, I have the neighbor's cat here all the time too.. Bubba. There's a photo of him in a post I made in the gardener's chat section "sometimes, my nemesis". He's a trip.

Like one cockateil wolfman (yes he live up to his name)2 Peachface lovebirds Gertrude and Heathcliff escape artists. 2-sugargliders Clyde and Laci,2-Green Iguana's Riki and Luci both ladies will take banana's out of my mouth as well as bread. 3-dogs (they don't know their dogs). Buck 19 yr o and blind MinPin. I am his seeing eye person, Mimi my only girl and takes advantage of it. she is Tibetian spaniel, Spotted dog white with 3 spots can't remember the breed but you can see all my owners on my photobucket. Myself I would not own a pet. wink You will notice there are no <img border="0" alt="[tongue]" title="" src="graemlins/tongue.gif" /> "c-a-t-s" spot doesnt like them. laugh All are throw aways I adopted except for spot he adopted us. laugh

Hi Katb. Weezie certainly knows her forum buddies. You know sometimes l think animals give you more love and trust than any other species.I have suffered like so many others on here of losing beloved animals. Each time I say never again, well here we are two cats later, Whiskey, what a handsome chappie, Mitzy so ladylike, absolutely love them to bits. Funny enough have just sent their pics to Cindy via email, to cheer her up, knowing what an animal lover she is. as l am not clever at posting pics on the
forum Duh maybe when Cindy is feeling better she will put them here for you to see.
I love all gods creatures, whichever shape or form, especially animals.

We have three cats whose names are Coho, Thumbs, and Snot. Thumbs and Snot were both found on the side of the road when they were small. Thumbs was wild and is still scared to death of us...even after 3 years! Snot was just a tiny little baby when I found her. she was a barn cat and had an upper respiratory infection that made her eyes and nose snotty. She was just big enough to lay and take a nap in the palm of my hand. She must have been the runt of the litter because she's 2 now and isn't really that large. Coho was bought for my husband, Stephen, as a birthday present. His 4th birthday is coming up in July. He is spoiled rotten and we joke around that he is our "first born". I also have two gerbils named Cheerio and Peanut that I keep in my classroom at school. The kids(and the other teachers!!) love to watch them eat, sleep, and play.

ok, i have to weigh in on this one... right now, maggie (black lab mix), monster (jack russell mix), and fuzzy (fuzz ball - pomeranian purebred) are the canine people in this house and striper and stinker are the feline people.

all we have had for the last 12 years have been "throw aways" until a man (dying with brain cancer) that i worked with gave me monster. then my cousin who loves and occasionally breeds poms gave us fuzzy. not to be out done, my son "acquired" maggie at scout came "to keep her from going to the pound" yeah right. stripe and stinker are both throw aways though that have earned their keep and then some.

we lost our beloved daisy (australian shepherd/border collie mix - both parents pedigreed) about a month before my son got maggie, and i am sure that is why he got her. daisy wasn't exactly a throw away, but was abused before we got her. she was the best dog, and i still miss her terribly.

anyway... those are our owners and spoiled rotten all.

Guess it's my turn. We have a golden lab in our house. She's the best. Recently we found out she has cancer and it's apparently malignant. The tumor was in behind her eye. She underwent a huge surgery and part of her jaw had to be removed in their attempt to get it all. Then we found out the margins didn't look good and they recommended chemo to extend her life a bit longer. She's had two treatments so far and she's such a fighter. You would never know she even had them. No ill effects so far. And to look at her, you would never know she had the surgery either. We are on borrowed time now and all of us are trying to deal with that. She is one spoilt girl but she's worth it. She loves to swim, go for car rides and her most favourite thing is to play lawnmower ball when we are cutting the grass. We get to kick the ball and she chases it and brings it back. (It takes twice as long to cut but who cares right?)

Every single minute is precious with her now and she's just taking it all in. laugh

I had the second largest registered dobie in the US at one time. His name was Seiko (he was a watch dog) and he was 15 when he died of congestive heart failure. I said never again. What a lie that was.

I am now owned by 2 cats Elvis and Alice (Elvis is a grey tiger and Alice is an orange tiger), 2 dogs George (we thought he was a mutt but turns out he is some rare breed of Polish sheepdog) and Tuck (pure bred border collie and a girl) and 4 horses...Vegas (quarter horse mare), Jody (an arab, quarter horse mix), Zeb (a mustang and arab mix gelding) and Lady (our alpha mare and no idea what kind of breed she is...just horse). We are foster parents for the summer for the high school zoology lab guppies too. Looks like 50 or so in the tank and one is hugely pg.

I used to have birds...a cockatiel named spice and Percy the parakeet who nobody liked but me. He freaked out at a cat and I guess died of heart failure, poor thing. I keep hinting I want more birds but my family ignores me. Geez, I clean the cages.

Has anyone had hermit crabs as pets?

When I was looking for pets which were small enough to hide from my landlord (ended up with guinea pigs), I thought about getting hermit crabs. But the sales assistant told me that they need quite a bit of attention, and if "emotionally neglected" they pull off their shells and walk around naked in their aquarium (!). I work long shifts and figured mine would be scandalising my mother-in-law within a week....

Well, so far so good. Thanks Jiffy. She is a fighter and just hasn't got time to be sick. We've had many pets over the years, but this one picked us and we are grateful to have her.

Storm-
Labs are some of the best. We lost our black lab 2 years ago on Dh's birthday. That was not a good time. Tyson was 11 years old. He was a wonderful and smart creature and we were so blessed to have had the time we did with him. With all the animals I have/own us you know their are some that are really really special. I wish you all the best. flw

My little Angel (JRT) is going to be 1 year old in July. She believes that she is the boss around here. She is a very demanding little thing, but I don't know how I could make it without her sometimes. Instinctively she realizes that her kisses make everything better. grinnnn She owns me lock, stock, and barrel.

Here is a pic of the "Boss"!

I am so sorry about your baby, Storm. I know that it must be really hard on the whole family.

Well she certainly looks the Boss, just look at that stance laugh . What a little beauty kissies .
My daughter has got a standard poodle our Tara luv she had a cancerous growth behind the eye, she had an operation which involved taking the eye out, the vet said she only had about 6months to live, and said with chemo she may last a bit longer, Tracey refused the treatment.
well here we are 3yrs later, many other growths, not suffering any pain that we know of, she is an old lady now bless, a bit stiff in the joints, gone deaf, reduced hearing, but when anyone visits she is up front to greet you wagging her tail. My daughter swears it is because she read up on special diets for dogs. She only feeds them with raw meat, they are not allowed any treats, their treats are bones cool Could this be why Tara is still surviving, it certainly seems to have worked for her. When Tara dies now it will be from old age, not cancer.
I know we are all guilty of pampering our pets, but really are we doing them more harm than good, with all the fancy food we give them.
Maybe we should feed them as nature intended.
Hope Storm comes through, feel so sorry for you, I just know and feel what you are going through.
Doreenx
