Hi..I'm new at this..and when I first found this site..I saw someone post a link for free Santa letters..it's the same one I have used before, and have started using it again this year. But for some reason today it is down. I send out over 100 each Christmas..hope it's back soon!
I am also very excited...my Christmas cactus has bloomed!!!I have had it for over a year and this is the first time ever!! Is there anything special I should do to keep it blooming every year??

Beaula,
Hello and Welcome, especially to a fellow New Yorker!!!!
Glad you found us!!!
*by way of Santa or gardening!!*

If you go down to the HOUSE plant SECTION,
and post a new question down there about your
Christmas cactus, I am pretty sure you'll get a few responses' to your questions into there...

And I hope you join in on all the fun we have here, thru out every season, holiday and everyday life..
There's lot's to do here, to keep you busy,
especially during those long, cold, blustery, wind and snow blowing days, **just like today*
And don't forget to take a peak into the Banter Hall section, and chat with all the members...

How much snow did you just get these last few days?
We've gotten over a foot and a half almost..

Hi Weezie,
Thank you so much for the Welcome, and help.
We have got over a foot of snow here just today. It's obvious that we don't live in the sun belt!! LOL!
Where do you live in New York? I am near Camden..and right now we are getting hammered with snow. The nice weatherman..Chris B says that we are in the 8 to 18"+ area. So I know we will get the +!! LOL! Can't complain tho..we sure had a wonderful summer.
I will definately go to the Banter Hall section.
Again, Thank-You for the nice Welcome and help.

I just Googled that, you're in Onieda County area?

I'm near Buffalo, N.Y.
One hour South of Buffalo, and 90 minutes North
of the Pa. border..

Snow belt and ski country...
We were projected to have 18" to 26"...
I definately know it's at least a foot and a half.
Kids are out shoveling right now, and I need to
get dressed and unbury us, and mother and the girl upstairs...

Lynne/aka plants~n~Pots is probably maybe closer to you?? Not 100% sure...

welcome to both of you - haven't seen more than a quarter inch of snow at one time since we left New England more than a decade ago. Hope you had fun shoveling - we seem to have a flood going on here.

I received a Christmas cactus almost 30 years ago for a gift that was estimated to be about 75 years old then. It has survived quite nicely with a little benign neglect.

Hi Bev,
Thank you for the Welcome. If you want I will send you some snow...LOL! Actually it is all gone now...warmed up a lot yesterday and today...and tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer. I have a feeling tho, that when we do finally get it...we are going to get hit hard. In fact they are calling for lake effect this friday.
I have 2 Christmas Cacti...1 bloomed and the other hasn't. They are so pretty tho. My sister inherited a Christmas cactus and they told her it was about 150 years old!! It has been in her hubbys family for generations. I just pray I can keep my alive! I am starting again new with plants...and I don't have a green thumb. I have had plants before...I love them..but I think I have a curse or something. LOL! I hope I have better luck this go round.

When my husband travels on business he sometimes packs up a snowball or two in a cooler (along with Brighams ice cream which we also can't get here) and brings it home - of course by then it's an ice ball but who cares - we aren't throwing it at anyone anyway. Good luck with the cacti they are pretty forgiving - when bits break off just stick them back in the dirt and water and they will take root.

Thanks for the info Bev! I knew I could do that with other plants, but didn't know I could with a cactus. I think I'll learn a lot here about plants...so glad I found this site!!
