I keep saying I'm going to start mine, and want the kids to help with the jiffy pot, *watch it* and we all get side tracked by something, but I'm going to have to start mine sooooooon, or I'm going to have "frozen wonder eggs" I've been busy sifting compost, and sifting more compost and even more compost!! I didn't think they would still have them out now that easter is over! and I really didn't know they would be marked down to a dollar! I'm going to walmart tomorrow so i'll have to check that out!! and pheonix people have said different things about it being edible. Some say it is and some say that it isn't. me personally? I would not eat it. I've read that it's got a bitter taste to it.

Well, another one bites the dust! I forgot to water it and it is dried out. I have 3 more seeds, though, so I will try, try again. Dianna

ok - this is my second attempt at writing this - the first time was lost when I entered it! WOW!!! I cannot believe how many posts there are on this topic! I am happy to report that the seeds that were questionable from last year's plant are now starting to germinate! I planted some on the top of the soil of the plant I was able to overwinter, and this morning I was pleasantly surprised to find that about 5-6 seeds have popped their bright green heads out of the soil! away from this pot, all will be well. I don't have anymore window space in rooms where I can close the doors, and yesterday she got into a few trays of 4 inch seedlings while chasing a yellow jack in the window, and knocked the peat pellets out and onto the floor, breaking several of the 4 inch high seedling stems of my cardinal flower vines - they were already on to their 2nd true leaves too! She is definitely in the doghouse now! How are everyone else's wonder eggs doing? Can't wait to see everyone's pictures...

well mine have done diddly squat so far but I just planted them like 5 days ago (on april 15th). I planted some outside a couple of weeks ago and they have done absolutely nothing. hopefully they do something soon! oh and I went to walmart today and asked if they had peat pellets (the ones you put in water and they get bigger) and they were sold out! the lady said they were very popular and they didn't have any more...oh well

Yep, like Lynne said they take a few weeks to pop up--I checked mine all the time before they sprouted and I was beginning to wonder if they were duds.....they're getting taller now but seem to be pretty slow growing, but they look healthy. And my walmart has the egg kits for 2 for 5 dollars now on clearnace......not as good as a buck, but better than paying full price.

well, as of last night, mine were still doing squat. then.... this morning, i go out to get something out of the car, and WOW a set of leaves. only one set, and not "true" leaves, but that jiffy pellet had been sitting there, in my starting tray for weeks! in fact, i gave up on the original seeds i put in it and put some more so now, i don't know which set is the set that germinatied! but, if i get one plant out of it, i'll be happy. so now, i have most of what i have planted up and running.

I HAVE PROGRESS!!!yay!!!! I took a peek-a-boo at them earlier and only 1 of them is barely popping up outta the soil!! thank goodness! I have 5 little peat pellets that I got at big lots (these are a bit smaller than the regular ones) so I'm REALLY glad one's coming up!

OK - since my questionable seeds from last year have had a high germination rate , I do have some that I can spare. There are probably enough seeds for maybe 8 packs of more than you got in the wonder egg at WalMart - I could probably do about 15 seeds in each. If anyone is interested in doing a SASE with bubble wrap for these, or if you have some seeds to trade for them, please PM me.

wow that's a great offer! I might have to take you up on it if (knock on wood) these that I have now don't do anything. they seem to be doing ok right now atleast one of them does anyway but for some odd reason when I looked earlier at it I saw that the sprout was up and outta the soil (finally!!) and the seed is for some reason up on top of the sprout? where the leaves are supposed to open?? what should I do just pick the seed off or just leave it alone? does anybody know why it did that?

Miss Jamie ~ What you are seeing is the seed SHELL. I would leave it alone - it will fall off by itself as the plant grows. I have this on all my seedlings, and am always tempted to pull it off, but experience has taught me that sometimes you also pull the entire seedling out of the soil, or worse yet, sometimes the top of the seedling breaks off.
