Great news!!! I second the advice on some good shoes. I worked at a factory that made bakery goods. Standing on your feet is really hard on the rest of your body. But...that is where I met my husband, Neil:)
Have a great day at work.

Congrats to you, and a little word of advice along with the others. Nurses shoes are the only way to go with an assembly line job.

Have fun on your first day.

wonderful news!!! The advice about comfortable shoes is the best you'll get. You can buy nurse shoes at any uniform or off-price uniform store. If they don't feel extremely comfortable don't buy them because your feet will not thank you. Take yourself over to the SAS department or SAS store and get a pair of old-lady shoes. Their sneakers come in white, black and beige and feel like clouds on your feet. That's what I wear for my nursing clinicals - also get yourself some support knee socks.

hey ya'll! thanks for the good luck! well I thought that I'd be boxing the stuff but apparently I'm putting the pumps on soap for bath and body works. my hours are now 7-3:30. I didn't know my feet were gonna be hurting so bad! I was limping like I had 2 broke feet and felt like the hunchback of notre dame because my back was hurting sooooo bad! it smelled good in there the first little bit but after a while you get so tired of smelling it lol! at first I sucked at putting pumps on because my box of pumps was on my right side and I'm right handed so I had to keep reaching over and grabbing a hand full with my left hand and by the time I got turned back around about 10 bottles had passed and they didn't get pumps because I was too slow! I was beating myself up trying to do it the quickest I could though. so when the machine cut off (which isn't very often!) I got smart and put my box on the left. after I did that I was ROLLING! I had that thing down! so now I finally have the hang of it. my line leader (in other words my boss) was chewing me out beacause I was going so slow in the beginning (hey it was my first time doing it!)but when she saw me going later and saw that I had the hang of it she told me that I was doing really good and that I finally had the hang of it! the thing that sucks big time though is that my pay right now is only 6 bucks an hour and I'm working 8 hours a day and monday-friday. but next week it might be 10 hours a day and 6 days a week and only having sunday off!!but that's ok. I'm not gonna be there long hopefully. I'm gonna be outta there as soon as I can get my license and everything and another job!weird how I thought this job was gonna be "fun" and was so "excited"...what in the world was I thinking?? Duh  :p perpl idea thanks for the good luck everybody! and guess what I'm gonna invest in with my first paycheck? A GOOD PAIR OF COMFY SHOES!!

Hi MissJamie,

I think you're going to do fine. First of all, you were able to figure out a way to make yourself to go faster so you can keep up, and that's a big step, in any job really.

I work at a plastic plant, and I've been there forever, it seems. When I was working at the press, it was a challenge to see if I could find a way to faster so I could keep up, and not only was I able to keep up with the machine, I found out I had extra time, so I was able to go at a steady pace, and not wear myself out. You'll be surprised at what you can do, if you put your mind too it. This will also help when find a better job for yourself. thumbup

hey everybody! I just wanted to let you know that I've survived 4 whole days on the job! and I FINALLY got switched to a different line! and I'm making friends smile I like my new line sooooo much better than my other line...I'm making boxes now! and it might not sound fun but it actually is! well for the time being anyway...loads better than putting pumps on bottles lol laugh hopefully I'll be in this line for a bit instead of being switched back to the pump line. thanks for the encouragement everybody!

Glad you like the new line better Miss Jamie! There will always be SOMETHING about a job that wont be pleasant! Eveen in some of my favorite jobs..there was always a glitch that wasn't pleasant. So...make it fun! And I am glad you are making friends and meeting people. You are off to a great start...and we are proud as punch!

I used to work as a picker at LLBeans and was on my feet all the time to! While a good pair of shoes is critical I found that after work I would was my feet with peppermint soap and voila! instant relief. Congrats on you job! A paycheck is a GOOD THING right!
