Hi! I'm new to gardening and fell in love with the caladium plant and just had to have one. I don't know anything about them, but they look great with my hostas. At the end of summer, what do I do with them? Do I leave them alone, or dig them up and store over winter? Help!

Caladiums are not cold hardy, so you'll have to dig them up and store them over the winter. I grow mine in pots and just bring the pots inside...then when spring comes again I water them well and set them back outside and so far they've come back every time.

Hey Debbie.
Welcome to the Garden.

alankhart nailed it. They don't tolerate the cold.
I wish I could grow them here where I now live. When I was in the south I had green ones, pink ones, red ones, yellow ones, veined ones with a mix of colors, splotched ones with a mix of colors.
You do need to thin them out during the winter. The are so beautiful.
I had one leaf that measured 27 inches long and 22 inches wide. Pretty big for the types I had, 'course I feed the too.

Anyway, welcome and enjoy your beautiful plants.
