OK-I have no clue where this came from (possibly the ficus I just purchased recently?), but I had a small box of my son's artwork on the floor in the dining room, and when I went to grab it, there he was-this little brown thing, maybe 4 inches from head to the tip of his tail. My dh managed to get it into this plastic egg thing that I was using for one of those "Egg" plant kit things, and we put some rocks, a little water, and some moss in there. But what does it eat? What IS it? I'll try to post a pic later, but now I'm wondering if he has friends? Am I infested with lizards? Ick!!! Thanks for any advice!

Well, here goes nothing-let's see if this works. Hopefully, here is a picture of the little creature I found in my dining room today. My cam is pretty low quality, so I'll have to try to get a better, brighter pic tomorrow in the daytime. hope this works... [Linked Image]

Awww, he's cute!

The photo isn't really clear but from where I'm sitting, your little guy looks like a salamander or newt. Is it's skin smooth and moist (salamander/newt) or rough and dry (lizard)? There might be exceptions to this general rule. Duh Like frogs, salamanders and newts are amphibians, appearing often during cool, damp weather. Maybe someone else will be along who can positively ID the little guy.

we have those down here, one of the parks out in the country has just been overrun with the little things. I think they mostly eat smaller insects. I noticed a couple in my flower beds last year.

yup-that sounds about right-sent dh & the boys to the pet store and they found out it's a knoll-besides in my dining room, it only lives in the southern US (I'm in connecticut)-I guess it must have come from the ficus. So my little guy is now happy in a little aquariam-I planted a couple of seeds in there-what types of plants might grow-it's only about 8 inches high, 10 inches long and 6 inches wide? I'll post some pics tomorrow. Thanks everyone!

I am surprised you caught him, they are so quick. I tried to catch ashley one last summer but he was just too quick, plus he had a hiddie hole in the dirt that I couldn't see and down he went quick as a flash.
