Great stuff if you can get your hands on it...

Mushroom compost is the medium mushrooms
are grown in, very sterile, no bugs or anything,
and only used once, they can't reuse it to grow
a second crop... each crop must be new...

And what a bonus if you can find some!!!!!

Wher'ed you find some???????
Local or internet???

I'm picking up a trailer load of it here this week myself. Luckily there's a mushroom farm down the road and they sell it off pretty cheap. I think it's all chicken manure too, so it should help my lasagna bed kick off to a good start.

Locally I can buy it by the Tandem load..so I guess I will get a load or 2 in the spring.

I have to get some fill for where my grass is too..do you think it would work like a top soil to plant grass too?

lol Weezie! I'll take pictures. wink I wish I could share with you but you're just too darn far away. lol. I never heard of this supplier until I asked at a garden centre where I could purchase manure in bulk recently. The woman there told me about the mushroom farm so I think it was a good find too.

Another customer standing nearby jumped in though, said she got a load once and it ended up blowing mushroom spores all over her property. (Not a good thing, I gathered, by the sneer on her face. lol) The saleswoman said, they must have sold her a fresher batch then they normally do but that's not usually the case.

Another friend of mine spreads it all over their lawn each year and they grow some pretty lush grass now. Never had a problem. I'd guess you'd still need to mix it with some topsoil Noxzema, to grow grass, but I'm no expert. Might have to ask that question on the grass and lawn thread.

Anyway, the spore thing is the only negative I've heard so far, but for my purposes I'm not concerned. It's going to be covered up in a lasagna bed for a long time anyway.
