this Army soldier in Iraq
with his tiny "plot" of grass in front of his tent. It's heartwarming!
Here is a soldier stationed in Iraq, stationed in a big sand box. He asked
his wife to send him dirt (U.S. soil), fertilizer and some grass seeds so
he can have the sweet aroma and feel the grass grow beneath his feet.

If you notice, he is even cutting the grass with a pair of a scissors. Sometimes we are in such a hurry that we don't stop and think about the little things that we take for granted.

please say a prayer for our soldiers that give and give so unselfishly for us.

thanks so much for sharing that with us mike. now wouldn't that be a good idea to anybody who had done one of these adopt a soldier programs? they could send the soldiers dirt and grass seed (and maybe flower seeds too!) so they could get a little piece of home smile

HI Weezie i do not know the soldiers name it was sent to me in a Email from a lady.her husband is also serving in Iraq as a photographer for the military and he ran across this soldier cutting his grass and took the photo and sent it to her as she is a active gardener and thought she would enjoy the photo.i think it was printed out in the military news paper also.so JON may have all ready seen it.but i had to share it with you all.tell JON he is in our prayers as are all of our troops that are serving around the world far from home and there families may god bless and keep them safe.your friend in gardening.mike57

I think he said he hasn't done any gardening
over there yet...
but maybe that picture will give him a smile....

Hello folks

Sorry I was not able to get to the PM that Weezie sent for a time. Things are ok here. I was blessed with getting my R&R leave moved up from mid March to early Nov. So was home from Saturday night after 3 Nov to Tues morning before Thanksgiving - - a full 15 days.

Rather than get on the puter - - I hit the garden - - that was one time I was especially glad for being in NV - rocks and all.

I put in 3 succulants, 3 wine grapes (merlot, chardonnay, and another), and a fig. Mom also had some stuff for me to throw in the ground for her. Then was a lot of weeding to do and burning to do - - but it was definitely enjoyable. But - - I did make sure that it did not cut into family time (i.e. when wife was at work and kids in school).

Got back here and received some great news - - but I do ask for special prayer. Being moved from Baghdad to Taji and being placed as a team chief for a special ops - - civil affairs team. The Taji area???? contrast LA or Detriot or Washington DC or Chicago rough side with a nice country town in Missouri - - I'm going from the country town (despite what you hear in the news of Baghdad). But this is what I came here for - what I volunteered to come out of retirement for - - to help those folks find a real reason to change way of life.

Will keep in touch when I can.

The newspaper here had talked about that soldier in the picture.
