I was outside this evening and found an Eastern Box turtle in my flower garden. Hurray! Hope he eats all those slugs!

Box turtles are not endangered but their numbers have dwindled due mainly to destruction of habitat and road kill.
U wouldn't believe how many times i've pulled over to the side of the road and got out to rescue a box turtle crossing the highway! One time i got my pickup truck stuck in a ditch (just recently) trying to save one. I got it off the road and then i call my roadside service to pull me out! I lost 2 hrs that day... but i saved the turtle...LOL! I get 4 or 5 a year and bring them home and let them loose around my home.

Floweraddict, now that you mention it... I really used to see quite alot of box turtles around growing up. Now, I can't remember the last time I saw one. Hmm. I'll keep my eye out for them. Thanks for the heads up!
