I was outside this evening and found an Eastern Box turtle in my flower garden. Hurray! Hope he eats all those slugs!

For those of u who don't know what a box turtle looks like here is a web site that shows a picture of one and tells all about it.
http://wildwnc.org/af/boxturtles.html

Box turtles are not endangered but their numbers have dwindled due mainly to destruction of habitat and road kill.
U wouldn't believe how many times i've pulled over to the side of the road and got out to rescue a box turtle crossing the highway! One time i got my pickup truck stuck in a ditch (just recently) trying to save one. I got it off the road and then i call my roadside service to pull me out! I lost 2 hrs that day... but i saved the turtle...LOL! I get 4 or 5 a year and bring them home and let them loose around my home.

Floweraddict, now that you mention it... I really used to see quite alot of box turtles around growing up. Now, I can't remember the last time I saw one. Hmm. I'll keep my eye out for them. Thanks for the heads up! eek
