Can somebody give me the link to the site that showed the hummingbird arrival dates that was posted last month? I thought I had bookmarked it, but apparently not. I had my first hummingbird yesterday.

Yes, it was a map and it showed the dates that hummingbirds were first spotted in different locations. I think the maps went back 6-10 years or so.

Cha-Ching! My first hummingbird arrived at 7:54 this morning! That 3-inch wide red plastic "CAUTION" tape looks pretty tacky, but a hummingbird a mile high couldn't miss it! Cindy

Thanks Cindy! That's it! I submitted my first sighting. It probably won't show up on the map though. I'm behind the other entries in my area. Probably it's because I live at a higher elevation (about 1800 feet higher). The hummingbirds arrive here later. I'm thinking about buying one of those red flowering currants like Bill posted a picture of in plant Pictures and Profiles. Maybe I can entice one a bit earlier then.

They land here the middle of May, can't wait. I even purchased a new glass feeder for them, I plan on getting a couple more since they are so territorial.
Last year I hung one next to my clothesline, bad mistake, it was like being swarmed by tiny helicopters trying to hang out the clothes.

As close as I can tell, I have 15 Hummingbirds so far this year. I put out my eighth feeder today as 3 Hummers hovered a few feet away. Two of them landed on the feeder before I even got the window closed... I love those little buggers!

Saturday while pklanting the boat. I had one buzz my head when I hung the pansie basket. I have so far begoniaz, geranium, salvia, a cardinal flower. I put 4 calla on the back side of the boat, now I have to go up to the hummingbird link and find something that will go between the tallness of the callas, and the shortness of the geraniums. I do so love the little ruby throated ones we get at the cabin. I have one hummer feeder there. I need to get another one. I planted the rest of the callas around the river birch the beaver got to this year. It is coming back, so it is not dead, thanks goodness. this year I would have had all kinds of places to hang feeders for the hummers if the beaver didn't decide to chop the birch down. so i am set for them. Ok, back to the back yard. time to start the deck beds.

Okay Mr. Bill so what's up with the hummers this year? I had 6 faithful buddies last year...and was tickled to count 4 as they began to arrive mid April....they wer here for a few weeks..and now they are just GONE! Haven't seen a one in over 2 weeks! I have 2 feeders out...and they usually bicker with each other around them. Is it this crazy hot/cold/hot/cold/weather?

I have 2 huge feeders up and think I need to hang another one or two. So far I have seen rufous, calliope and black chin hummers. No broad tails as yet. I have had hummers since the end of April.

Hummers tend to follow their favorite native flowers that are blooming at the time. Your weather probably had a lot to do with them leaving, but I'm sure it's a temporary move. When they came in April, something they liked wasn't in bloom yet, so they went to look for it. I've had to fill one of my feeders 3 times today, but last week I filled it once. The Hummers were all over me while I filled it... It's almost scarey to walk in the gardens today because there are so many Hummingbirds out there!

Thanks Mr. B...WHEW...I was really worried but..had a feeling it was due to this CRAZY weather we have so far. I think several of our blooming plants & flowers are still in shock! I will keep looking for my friends to come back...I just love them!

There was one investigating the pentas I was planting recently - even before the plants were in the ground! It has been around almost every morning since then. It likes the pentas and the calibrachoas. It's the first time I have ever seen a solid black hummingbird.
