Hi all ~
Early this morning I was sitting in my messy kitchen thinking I couldn't cope another second with the way things are in my apartment. The place is not well-organized to accomodate my wheelchair and untidy living is chronic as everything must be kept within reach of a 9 year old and a person who is seated. It makes me nuts!
Plus, we have been under much financial stress of late.
The phone rang. It was a friend from church AND a DJ from a local radio station! The station had asked listeners to write in about a family in particular need this season of a "Christmas Wish" and my pal Lisa had written about Maxi and I. Her letter won the contest!
I knew nothing about any of this until the woman on the phone started eplaining. Several area businesses are contributing sensible stuff. The apartment will be cleaned. A decorator will come and see what we need to better organize. A furniture place will donate reconditioned furniture. The apartment will be painted. There will be gift certificates for clothes and food. A gift certificate for toys for Maxi. A Christmas
tree....
So I sat here bawling into the phone, speechless, unable to think of a single thing to say beyond "Thank You!"
In recent weeks I have simply been overwhelmsed with the task of trying to make our lives work in this place that is so messy and unhandy. Mel can verify how much in need of help this place is in as she was here just last week and did much to lend a hand herself.
So I can't hardly believe any of it. Maxi left for school fairly dancing down the sidewalk. I called my priest who also hadn't been told a word and he could barely believe it, either.
Oh, to have a clean, fresh home for the holidays! To have some surprises for Maxi!
