Hi Dolly! I'm a new member too - welcome to the forum! I'm also in Illinois - what part are you in? We're in southern Illinois. I'm not sure if I can answer your questions - we just planted a rose garden and put hardwood mulch around the bushes (though I don't know if that was the 'right' kind of mulch?) We also have a rhododendrum, and it's almost in full bloom - is yours not blooming? I know they like well drained, acidic soil. May be you could make some 'air holes' in your soil to help it along. I also feed mine coffee and I believe eggshells are good for them too. Here's the link for the plants and flowers board - you may get more help there - I'm still a newbie to gardening. Good luck, and welcome!
