My Hollyhocks are blooming, yay!! (very pretty deep purple)
This is my first patch of Hollyhocks.I sowed the seeds last year and got nice looking plants,no blooms though.
Ah perennials,I know .....got to be patient.

The leaves look lacy, like a bug has had their chewy way with them.

I've looked and looked again.I haven't seen anything.

Please help me. frown

If it's any concellation,
Mine are getting chewed too!!!

I first thought the Cutter Bee...
but they take the edges and cut in,
so there's half circles on the edges
most of the time, not just holes
in the middle...

Meg had a picture, the same thing on her
Green Beans...

There is a Bean Leaf Beetle...

But I am not sure it's the same bug,
although the holes look exactly alike...

wavey Hey Shari, We havce the Japanese lace wing beetle here and from what I understand they are having problems with them in Mo. I know some have been seen in St. Louis as I have spoken with people there who told me they are having problems with them. Check and make sure they are not hard to detect if you have them. Orange oil and Citrus oil products will help with them.

My Hollyhocks are blooming too. I haven't noticed any holes yet, but have seen that in past when I lived in Calif.

One funny thing I did notice....the seeds I planted were from a beautiful dark fuscia colored plant I had in Calif. I know I harvested seeds ONLY from that one, and labeled them and put them in a ziploc bag.

OK. Now they're blooming. One plant has pale pink with dark centers, one has the original color, and one has a medium pink. Anyone know why the variation in color? This happened once before, and they all came out WHITE.

Very wierd. Duh

I don't know...I did have other colors growing but not very close by the fuscia one.

I just wondered if maybe all seeds carry all colors and just randomly come out each year. It'll be interesting to see what colors I get next time these bloom.
