I'm no master gardner but have had luck with houseplants. I have a few Swedish ivies (a.k.a. creeping Charlie), a couple philodendrons, a ficus, wandering Jew, violet, Janet Craig,"lucky bamboo", ponytail palm, camille, ivy and about anything else that people have to give as a start and can fit in my apartment. I think that I've figured out what all of them are with the help of other forum members.

I have a question about the bamboo: Can these be planted in soil? The roots are growing out of the small pot it came with. Should it just be put in a larger pot with water?

Welcome to the forum zbawic! I've never grown lucky bamboo, but I found a page with some information that should be helpful. No, you shouldn't plant it in soil. Growing lucky bamboo

I was given a "lucky bamboo" about 2 years ago. I was informed by a horticulturist that although these plants can survive for a long time in water, it will eventually kill it. They can be planted in soil, just like other dracaena varieties. Mine has done very well, and I potted it about 2 weeks after I got it.
If you do a forum search, or check the houseplants link at the top of the page, I believe our horticulturist Will Creed had some information about them....come to think of it, I believe he's the one who informed me! laugh wavey
