I just bought a deep red japanese maple and was going to plant it in the front of my house, but my neighbor said to keep it from the north winds. I've looked around the internet and can't find anything about a good location for this type of tree. Does anyone know the best location for this type of tree?
Thanks,
soovla

I planted a Japanese lace-leafed maple at the western corner of our home and it loves it...have also used some "Jobes" fertilizer thingy's that you drive into the ground around it all. I do know that they must have a good amount of sun to keep the leaves the deep red color. It's been there about 5 years and is growing extremely well. It also seems to get an almost constant breeze where it is. Hope yours fares as well.
