While reading through the forums, I noticed some of you say that you already have your gardens going. I'm jealous!!! I can't plant outside here until May 24th. Just out of curiosity, when do all of you do your planting?

In zone 6 here, the last frost date is May 15th.
It's always soooooo hard to wait :rolleyes: until then, but unless we've been having rountinely warm days for a few weeks, I have to discipline myself to hold off if I want my plants to thrive.

zone 7a I was out there the week before spring officially arrived. But then I didn't know any better. I still have Coriander and Chives from that batch of plantings but that might be beginners luck.

I'm somewhere between zones 6 & 7, and so I should be in the clear to plant outside soooooon. Late April, is the average for last frost around here. It's been getting so nice, in the 80's, heck, one day near 90.. and then today, BAM! It's not even gonna reach 50 today! It's cold & windy, & drizzly out. *blech* :p

On a good note, I just got my Grub Away South in the mail this weekend. I would apply them right now, but um.. it's a bit cold today! It should be a teensy bit warmer for these south loving nematodes, according to the directions. I should be able to apply them tomorrow tho.. I hope.

I'm in zone 6 also, and usually start planting around the beginning of May(depends on how the forecast looks)......I can't wait for it to warm up for good!!!!! I'm so ready to get out there and start planting some flowers...... <img border="0" alt="[clappy]" title="" src="graemlins/clappy.gif" />

Here in Missouri we can plant some things early, like peas, potatoes, radishes and cucumbers. It's still a little early to put in the tomatoes and anual flowers. My perinials are gorgous this year! The columbine is thriving and my mums look like they will want to bloom before fall so I'll have to trim them back. I hope it's a great growing season for all!!

My rule of thumb is having stuff all
planted by Memorial Weekend!!!!!

I did seeds for the first time last year,
and am doing them again this year...
So, I'm starting the seeds in a week or so
in the greenhouse outside..
Should be enough warm days during the day
to keep the warm in over nights...

Although, I have already planted peas, romaine, black seeded simpson lettuce outside.
I have over wintered Swiss Chard, YAY!!
And my chives are edible right now...
and rhubarb are already up and a week or two ready to pick!

And my borage seeds that over wintered are just now sprouting.

here in 8a-b/9a the old folks always told us not to plant before good friday because if you do, it will freeze or flood. so, that is the rule i follow. so far, it's never let me down or been wrong.

My routine is to start planting March 15th (or close after) This is the first time that I have had the frost panic thing...last year we did get a bunch of rain right after planting...but everything survived. The problem these days are we really don't have "seasons" like they should be...we go from snow to 104 heat....I use to be able to pack winter clothes for the summer and summer clothes in the winter....but can't do that anymore! Last week we ran the air conditioner...this week...the heater...JUST CRAZY!!!

I guess if I do plant anything on the lot it will be around mid-May. It's taking me a while to just clean it up from the winter, so I probably wouldn't be ready till then anyway.

I understand you can plant some things - if you're into cultivating weeds, like I am, you can do that. Early spring is supposed to be a good time to do that. You just go around and pick the ones that are already sprouting and transfer them to where you want them.

I shouldn't say 'weeds'. plants - weeds are plants that grow where you don't want them.

There are a lot of things you can be doing right now - cleaning for one thing. Placing stones, collecting stones from the beach, etc.

I'm jealous, I can't start planting here until the middle of June. Our frost is so late.

I am in zone 6a. I have planted some of the less tender perienniels. Annuals and tomatoes are still waiting until it gets a mite warmer....about mid May.

I'm between z6-7, and, being my 1st time doing seeds, I think I jumped the gun a bit. I did kale, beets, cabbage, peas and lettuces 2 weeks ago outside. Sprouting has been slow, but they seem to be coming along as it's getting a bit warmer. I have other stuff inside, but I'm holding off at least 2 more weeks before those go out.

I think we planted too soon. We waited until Good Friday, which was a good time for us last year. The weather has been all messed up this year it seems.

I am wondering if we are going to have to re-plant everything now.

Here in Central Florida, it's said that mid-February is usually the point where there's not much danger of frost, so we can start some plantings then. To start the others, I usually wait until the beginning of March, maybe mid-March. The weather is pretty freaky here, cold as sin one day, beach-time warm the next... :rolleyes:

I do not do any big dog planting until Mothers Days weekend, I am kinda wondering if I didn't put those new roses in a bit to soon, I have never had roses. We shall see,lol. But the big plantings of the flowers beds and the veggie bed won't be done til M.D. by the end of that week it will be in.

I planted my early peas and early tomatoes (with protection [Wall 'o waters]) on March 30. potatoes and my second peas were planted on April 18.

Can't plant here until the middle of June, we had a snowstorm yesterday.

I've got flowers coming up galore but I haven't put out any vegetables. I'm 7b. My mother went ahead and put out tomatoes and told me today that she already has blooms.

Yesterday I put out zinnia seeds from Cindy and holly hock seeds from Sheri C. I can't think who sent me the tickseeds, but I put it out too.
