Does anyone have ideas on how to keep "wolf" spiders out of the house. I dont really want to use harsh chemicals because I have a 4 yr old and I watch my 1 yr old neice. I need something that would not harm either one of them. Thanks for the help

HI,
There is a product called spidernot. It is hard to find but it does work. Takes about a week to get an infestation out of your house if it is already there. It will not harm the walls where you spray it although I was worried the first time I applied it.

Sorry i gave bad information
Spidernot is definitely a harsh chemical.
Organically speaking the only way I know of to keep any spider out of your house is to keep all the other bugs out.
What kind of Wolf spider are you running into in West Virginia? Most of them I have run into have been in tropical or desert climites.

A friend of mine says the hedge apples I see around the foundation of her house are to keep spiders out. I don't know if she knows what she's talking about but they scare me!

...ok, i'll bite. What is a "hedge apple". Can they be planted indoors? If spiders don't like them; then, I do.

Oh my!! Hedgeapples are like weeds around here. They grow on trees..... they make "hedge rows" around farm fields. I don't know if it's true or not but my gramma always said that if horses or cows ate too many, they would get sick. I found a picture. I hope this works~ http://members.iglou.com/perkins/newkpf/2001_11/home3507.htm

Thankyou auntnene, That was interesting reading. A second story apartment isn't the right place for a tree, but I did enjoy reading about it.

We've actually had this conversation back in September....and someone posted the exact same picture!! Here is a link to that thread, some people mention using them as bug repellant. Any idea?

This isn't something I've tried yet, but will come conker season, when those nasty wolf spiders are seeking refuge in my house (I wouldn't mind as much if they paid rent )... Apparently, chestnuts laid around the house foundation act as spider deterrents.

Well, I let most of my spiders alone also....and I STILL have bugs. I HATE spiders and since the ones that I have aren't earning their keep, I'm kicking them out!!

Wolf Spiders don't do much but scare the heck out of you. Their legs make them look hugh. My youngest could clear the hallway in a single leap if she came out and one was in the floor. Don't know about the Bodart apple and spiders. It's juice is VERY milky and sticky. Chemical or other must get directly on the spider to do any good (this according to my exterminator). I use the triangle sticky tyoe trap along the base board behind the furniture. I've caught lizards, small mice, a few bugs and spiders during season. Vacuming under the the base boards as best youy can will get the most.
