Hey gardengal, wavey
My own personal thoughts on that are,
probably for your zone,
that's an alright idea.
Because you garden alot later than I do here.
But for zones like me, zone 5.
My rule of thumb for the empsom salts
*which is way excellent for roses* is.....

May 1st, June 1st and July 1st, August 1st.
(once in a while I sneak some in on April 1st??)

We don't want them blooming too late here,
which is promoting green growth,
instead of going night~night for the winter!!!!

I do no fertilizers after August 1st.
Sometimes winter comes early.

Duh nuttin growing here anymore. I have to confess, I don't do anything special with my roses. And now it is too cold to want to do anything. Rain (hope no snow) is on the way and today was only 8C with a drop down to -1 tonight. (46 / 31F)

my roses bloom till january so I get blooms pretty much year round they start back up in late feb.I add epson salt to my manure tea so they kinda get that every 2 weeks but oct is the last I add epson salts till march.its not good when soil temp below 50.they don't absorb it then.i usually get my best blooms in oct& may April wasn't that bad this year either and that was even with being recently moved roses they went in ground end of feb.I had lots of strange looks going down hyw with plants all in back of boat& a pond tied on too boot
my aloha rose has 5 buds and 3 roses are blooming.its become ing my fav besides my dreamward which pretty much blooms every few weeks& i can't leave out colossus eitherhe seems to stay a week behind dreamward.I liked my shrub rose starry nights till moveing.he blooms more but he gets blackspot...only one that does.too much humidity for him

You are quite right, Weezie, I should have added that tip was only for those in mild climates like mine. It has been hot again here, almost 100 degrees over the weekend, so we definitely have time for one or two more blooms. wavey Thanks for adding that info. wink

I am freezing myself to death, already.
I am not ready for winter,
but it's coming "weather" I am ready or not!!
Thanks for letting me know how warm YOU are!!!
That makes me feel colder!!

But, yeah, thought I'd put that pointer in there,
I wouldn't want a new gardener in a zone like mine doing that.

And I often forget about the hotter climates too!
It's funny how different area's are for everything.
But nice people grow everywhere!!! thumbup
Weezie
And Espom salts are a great tip for them too by the way!!
Awesome for them!!!

I wish you could send us some of that cool weather. Its hot!! mad It was close to 100 this weekend and its not supposed to cool down much for a while, maybe down to the 80s by this weekend. frown I even have blooms again on my citrus trees, they're all confused. nutz

But anyway, thanks again for catching my post and adding to it. I forget that other people actually have more than one season. smile
