a computer buddy of ours actually said if you spill stuff into the keyboard, you can wash keyboards off with a sprayhose, allow them to dry and plug them in...they are good to go..now, i have never actually tried this, the 13 bucks for a new one doesn't seem like much, but then again i don't have a big ol parrot pickin my keys off either! lol.

You can also pop the keys out and clean with a q-tip or something, should you be so inclined. Also, I know they make plastic keyboard covers for businesses. You might notice them sometimes at various retail stores. Bet you could buy them at Staples or something, tho I've never actually checked.
My problem is, I rub the letters off mine, then I can't type. I buy a new keyboard when I get sick of looking at all my magic-markered-in letters.

Wish I would have know that! I just throw 'em in the garbage. I can usually pop the keys back on IF I can get them away from Lola. She tends to go a little balistic when she has something and I try to take it away from her. I lost two fingers trying to get one of my paint brushes away from her yesterday! She finally got REAL mad and just snapped it in half and laughed at me! mad

We fight and argue all the time! [Linked Image] She started pulling my hair the other day and laughing about it, so I said "Watch it!" Then she said "YOU watch it!" laugh

Hey Cindy,
I have an awesome idea idea
Memorize all the keys and where they'd be...

Then just pop off all the keys,
give all the buttons to Lola to play with
(she'll have some fun with some new toys for a while) and just type with the little thingies where the tabs would go....

Then when you spill anything into it,
it's so easy clean up, just grab the q~tip and swab away...or get the seeds out without the tweezers or the headache!
Heck, maybe even keep a straw by the keyboard,
and you can s*ck the wine right out of the bottom of the pad!!!

Now you might have to build up some callus's
Where those thingies would poke you, but
hey, beats the sh*t outta throwin' them darn things away!!!

JUST KIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDING!!! wink wink wink wink laugh

My keyboard is almost 5 years old.......When I have drinks up here they are always in a bottle so I don't spill stuff--which is a huge surprise because I'm one of the clumsiest people in the world......being 5"10" doesn't make me the most graceful person.... :p Ever day I'm screaming OUCH, and Mark will laugh and yell what did you do to yourself now? So my keyboard is very lucky that it's in good shape.........okay, I'm knocking on wood now....lol

I just took my mouse apart not that long ago because it stopped working and you should've seen all the gunk in there.... shk It isn't one of those things I think about doing until it won't work.....it was really gross....

That's okay Karen........I've had my printer for over a year now and a while back it started printing funny......I was telling my friend and she said, did you clean it? I said, what do you mean clean it????? I had no idea at all that you had to clean your printer!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the stuff that's written in the back of the printer manual in small print.......

I just figured you bought new cartridges when they ran out and that's it.....Needless to say that made me feel pretty stupid.....

Clean the nozzles on the printer.......lol There is a maintainence part in my printer software that does it......heck if I knew about it.....had to run it about 5 times to get my printer straightened out.

You know what's gross.....out of curiousity I just turned my keyboard over and tapped it on the desk.......tons of stuff fell out of it..... shk

i am always "tapping out" my keyboard at home and at work... at home it is cat & dog hair, food, unknown gribblies, and Lord knows what else...

at work, it is cookie crumbs, staples, paper clips, unknown gribblies, and Lord knows what else...

hmmm.... seems to be a lot of "unknown gribblies, and Lord knows what else... " in keyboards...

Steve has a brand new keyboard. I think it was only a month or so new.. and a kitten knocked over a cuppa coffee all over it! He took it completely apart, and washed it.. hung it up to dry, and had a HELL of a time putting it all back together.. but he did it, and it's still working. laugh

You guys ARE TOO FUNNY!!!

I had to pipe in *of course*..........
If I were to take a picture of mine,
you'd ALLLLLLLLL be falling off your chairs
sca shk laugh shk
compared to Meg's.
Cindy, would run out of room to type words in for the "things" around my computer/monitor/keyboard. Especially with the kids come in with stuff, junkmail, boyscouts/fundraisers/bibleschool info, who said it one time, the box of cereal for the kids, etc. must be right next to her, well, I would have to say,
that's about the only thing that's NOT!!!
I have a chair that's next to my desk that's a catch~all, I swear some days it's taller than me! shocked frown
I often think and wonder if I was on one of those makeover shows or Mission Organization or Martha Stewarts show, how they'd first go running out of the room and if they did attempt to do it, HOW the out come would look as when they have the final pictures of what they fixed it up to look like, It wouldn't work for me...I'd have it filled with kids toys and paper in a week! UGH!

Meg,
I just had to go back and check the "reflection"
outta total curiousity and what they were talkin' about, *I didn't see anything* but what game is the hubby playin'???? Mine's addicted to a game on line called TRIBES and it sorta looked similar to what yours was playin'....
And how did you get him to wear the head phones???
OH MY GAWDDDDDDDD mine has his so loud sometimes,
I have to remind him that even though I'm going deaf in one ear, I can hear quite well outta the other!!!! frown mad shk :p

Love your set up of side by side puters,
we're getting a new desk made, *well, it's on temp. hold right now, putting a shed in but, we'll have side by sides soon.. *for my wee~one and me... that way I can sit with him and help him alot more when he wants to do his "Reader~Rabbits" and all of those type games.
Hubby's is behind me in the same room, but he has to have his back to the wall, he made himself an area with surround~sound for that tribes game.

After months of nagging, I made him break out the headphones. I couldn't stand all the loud noise when I'd be sitting across the room and had the tv cranked and still couldn't hear it. He still gets loud during some matches.. he starts yelling like crazy in his microphone!!

He plays Medal of Honor Allied Assault. And I think sometimes Soldier of Fortune II. They look the same to me.. I don't play them! LOL. He plays online with a group of guys, in tournaments.

Cindy, I didn't see anything "dirty" in your pic, but we did notice the Jim Beam, and is that Pee Wee Herman on your monitor?! I see G-Mom, I think!?

I have a favorite room too, I demolished what was there before.. fake wood paneling & chair rail half way up the wall.. and picked out the rest and had a little help with the border. I picked the colors & painted a lot, and had to repair the walls first from tearing down the panel crap. I dont' think it turned out too bad..

Meg.....this room is messy to me....lol I just throw stuff everywhere, and the books need straightened up bad......It's not my fav. as far as decorations/design go--just my fav. because it's all mine.....since it's one of the rooms that most people coming in the house don't see I can throw all kinds of junk in here..... laugh

I like your bathroom thumbup ......I don't love fake wood paneling at all----too bad it's in almost every room of the hose......lol We painted the living room cream right over the paneling for now until we drywall......and the bedrooms up here are all a lighter paneling so I'm living with it for now........this carpet up here frown , it's all ugly gold...that will be going just as soon as I get the energy to move everything so it can be pulled up.....which may be a long time....Dark paneling makes me feel like I'm in a cave though--and I like light....

Getting things organized to figure out how much shelf space I need to have something built to put all the tools etc on.

How do you know where anything is???

My daughter has clothes in piles in her room and it driiiiiiives me crazy. Think she does it because she knows when I can't take it anymore I will end up doing her laundry!!! :p

Meg- I like your bathroom, too!

And, OMG, are we all married to the same man, or what? Between the mess and the LOUD games-- I think the only difference is in which game they play. Okay, just wait till I dig out the camera, you've gotta see a pic of my hubby's 'puter surrounded on all sides by his MASSIVE Sipmsons figure collection...

What is it they say on that show...if you haven't used it/seen it for 6 mo. to a year then you don't NEED it!!! grinnnn

Do you even know what is in that pile beside the file cabinets???

My thing is file it and forget it exists....and hurry and close the door before it falls out!!! laugh

I really like the colors you did the bathroom in....I need to open up and go for some color other than white....I moved into this house a few years ago and it is an awful peach color and an off white color....and to hang pictures they used 16 penny nails frown ....thinking light shades of green and yellows. I need to break out of my shell....but definitely not going for the bright red and bold colors. Don't get me wrong some places that looks really good...but ohhh that is totally not me. Something to go with an antique country look and light color wood floors. I dunno one of these years. crit

BTW, just in case you all couldn't guess....I'm a bookworm......I horde them....I have boxes of them in the basement too.....my mom said to me a while back I should get rid of some of them....I cringed......It's like my own little library.....Next week maybe I'll clean it up really good and post some pics of how it looks when it's all clean and nice.....lol

My name is Laura, and I'm a pack rat..... laugh

I can admit it....oh, just you wait until you all see my xmas decorations.....you'd think I had about 10 kids here the way I decorate.....my mom says, no wonder Athena(my niece) loves it here you have so much stuff for her to look at and play with.....I'm the certified knick knack queen--honestly I am....or as Mark puts it....Oh no, you aren't buying more junk? Especially flowery junk.....I love anything flowery and countryish......Clutter is a main problem of mine....and I hate to throw anything out....I even have some clothes from my first year of college when I was 17.......let's see I'm 28 now....maybe it's time to throw some away. laugh

When you go to post,
and that part comes up...

Scroll down, and look for:
URL.......EMAIL
BOLD......ITALICS
QUOTE.....CODE
LIST~START....LIST~ITEM
LIST~END....*IMAGE*

It'll be on the bottom right,
click that and it'll have an area to type in
(or copy and pasted) into it...
*make sure the letters in blue go away first,
or you might have two http//'s.

Loz, Ya know, I think we were sisters or something, separated..lol.

I have always loved my books.. I still have books from my childhood, that I keep on a bookshelf. My kids will someday read these, I just know it! I can't get rid of books, that's just wrong!!

nic-nacs.. yea, got those too. I started that collection young as well. I have an aunt that used to have her own ceramic shop that was the garage, converted. It was full of shelves of ceramics, paints, glazes, molds, and even a kiln! I used to go over there and get my goods fer free!! She'd let me paint my own, or give me stuff she'd made. She switched after years of doing that, to painting. So of course, I got some pictures. Then my mom started having Home Interior parties.. I'd go, and get more stuff!! (And I mean, I was only maybe 10-12 years old then!) I'd save my allowance to buy stuff I wanted, and mom would sometimes buy me something I really wanted and couldn't afford. Later, when I was 18, I went to a Princess House Crystal party. I ended up getting a bunch of stuff the next couple of months. I can't part with that stuff, it's so pretty!! (Much of it in boxes!)

Now, we have clutter of another kind too.. papers, boxes, just junk laying around. True, a lot could be gotten rid of. I just don't like getting into it, cuz it takes forever!!!! I could spend an entire day just doing a kid's room. I've done that a few times now! Go in with garbage bags and get rid of at least 2-3 bags of old broken toys, etc. It's time again. I dread that chore. I almost have to do it when the kids aren't home, cuz they get in my way "to help".

And for the record catlover.. yes, I know most of what's behind me. And the CATS are the ones that knocked it all over, off the shelves!! laugh laugh

geegee.. try using photobucket for picture storage. They allow linking to the picture like that. Webshots only lets you post a link, not the photo itself. :p

Meg

ps- I went to webshots and looked at your desk photos. I like your desk!! I want that kinda setup, but I don't have the space for that!! Wow! flw flw

Meg......wow, sounds like we do have some stuff in common.....lol I'm even guilty of sometimes buying the same book twice.... I have so many that I forget what I even have.....and although I'm not big into reading a book a second time I still can't bear to part with them all......

I love ceramics!!!! I paint a lot of them....one of my fav. things.........my sister is a minimalist/clean type decorator.....I think when she walks into my house she feels claustrophobic, but I love being surrounded by all my junk.....actually it helps me feel at ease.....

geegeeburr--Your office looks pretty good to me, you have all of those pretty colored storage boxes on your desk........Maybe I should break down and buy something like that...... thumbup

Cindy, our computers being on the GH just shows how truly and sadly addicted we are to this place......we've been brainwashed I tell you, brainwashed.... laugh
