Here are my monkey's standing by them so you can see a size comparison. My older son is about 50" tall.

Check out that crazy bloom that got broken from the storm. I picked up the stem, and tied it to a support, and left the bloom on there, thinking it would die and dry out, and I would gather the seeds from it. It had other plans, and turned itself back upright. LOL:

Awesome zinnias!
Did you plant "Giant" zinnia seeds, or just regular seeds and they grew that tall?
Mine are about three feet tall this year. They get taller every year!
Right now some are getting some black "something" on the leaves. I don't know what's up with that, but it looks awful.

NICE MONKEYS!
Which one is the meanest? laugh

You know, I can't remember if they were giant. They are too big not to be, so I bet they were.
As far as which is the meanest...it's a tie.

Do you ever get any black ugly "something" on your stems and leaves? That's happening to mine right now, and it looks awful! Like some kind of mold???
Guess I need to go out and take a picture and find out what I need to do about it.

Aww, those boys are SO CUTE!

My Dahlia Zinnias and cactus Zinnias usually get very tall and I have to cut them before every major storm so they won't keel over entirely. I just cut a bunch before Hurricane Charley, who wound up petering out anyway. But that's okay, it keeps them deadheaded and blooming onward!

I love the red globe, too. Is it glass, or one of the newer, unbreakable plastic ones? I love how it compliments the zinnias.

Awww Cindy, your grandbabies ar adorable! They must come from "Good Stock" cool
I got rid of a bunch of zinnias cause they were eaten up with mildew.....but all of a sudden I have zinnias popping up in the strangest places in my yard! They're flowering really good and you can bet I'm gonna get some of the seeds.

Since I got rid of them I found out that either sulphur powder or baking soda can help alot. You mix it(1/4 cup of powder to a quart of water)and spray it on...covering top and bottom of leaves. Haven't tried it but others have had success.

I haven't had a lot of luck with my zinnias, but then again, I didn't know anything about them until I joined this site. I was visiting my sister (half-sister, didn't grow up with her and just getting to know her), this weekend, and saw some of her plants. She's not very knowledgeable about plants, either. However, I did get to share some of the know-how that I have picked up here! It was great! One of the things I got to share with her was how to collect the zinnia seeds! She hasn't been watering hers enough & had several dead blooms so I was able to pull of the petals & show her, as well as see for myself, for the first time! It felt really good to be able to tell someone something like that with confidence shocked grinnnn

Sami...I collected a Wal-Mart bag full of seed heads today!
I was sitting at the table and had seeds on newspaper, and Lola flew over the table.....
It was awesome! Zinnia seeds went everywhere! Had to just vacuum them up out of the carpet! laugh

Gardenmom...I'm trying the baking soda thing first thing tomorrow!
They look terrible!

My husband said he would have been so upset about losing the seeds that he would have grounded Lola from the tv laugh laugh
