So, I have this massive box of fabric from a quilt that I was going to do and then never did. Didn't have a clue as to how I was going to use all of the fabric. I finally figured it out yesterday. The April/May edition of "Quilt Works Today" just arrived at my house and there's a great quilt called "Brandon's Jungle" in there. I'm going to make a crib sized quilt with the same pattern as the jungle quilt. There's alot of fussy cutting for the little "windows" of the blocks which will be really fun. So, today I will be starting the quilt. It's going to be lots of fun!! I'm sooo excited!

Good luck on your quilt. Its always so much fun starting a new project. I am making myself finish a cross-stitch I've been working on for 2+ years before I start anything else (even though my best friend is pregnant and I'm itching to start something for her....).

My co-worker and I want to learn knitting one of these days. Do you know how to knit as well? We have been looking for a class through a community center but no luck yet. Maybe we should break down and buy a book and teach ourselves. <img border="0" alt="[perplexed]" title="" src="graemlins/confused.gif" />

Knitting....no, don't know how to do that. I'm lucky if I get through an hour of quilting without pricking my finger more than 5 times, let alone make something while haveing 2 sticks going all over the place in front of my face!! Sorry I can't help with that. My brother in law knits...he makes all sorts of stuff. Right now he makes these really cool "hippie hats". Hehe...he even made one for his 5 month old daughter!

Have fun with that quilt! I've given up on quilting until summer, I think....i've got the gardening bug so bad, my free time seems to be focused on reading, planning the garden.

I have promised my MIL a quilt. She visited from England this past summer and she really wanted me to make something. I feel sooo guilty because i haven't started her quilt yet!! I've been working on crib size quilts because they are easier to handle and I think a larger one would be frustrating.

I just can't find the fabric, the pattern that I think she'd like. She wants something in rose colors. Have any ideas?

Btw-she is an artist...so perhaps I don't feel the quilt will be up to her standards or something....but I do want to do something for her.

It is soo funny to me how things happen sometimes. I started the quilt that I talked about above, then saw a crib sized quilt that is mostly applique', so I'm going to be starting that tonight and taking it on the plane with me tomorrow to get some of the applique' done.

Let me think about some patterns that you MIL might like. I'll get back to you about that later tonight. As far as finding fabrics...right now is a GREAT time to find rosey fabrics at places like Hancocks or JoAnne's. Right before spring, they start to stock that kind of stuff because people make outfits for Easter. Also, I've found some great prints at Super Walmart!! I could spend hours looking at fabric...what I usually do for a quilt is find a nice fabric with a larger print with the colors that I'm looking for, then using the colors that are in that print, find fabrics with a small print with those colors....even solids. I made a really great card tricks with a fabric that had a blue background with medium sized roses on it and then for the 2nd set of cards on the block, I used a solid muave color that was actually in the printed fabric. It looks great and your eye is fooled to believe that there is more of that pretty soft color than the blue...maybe card tricks is a pattern she would like?? Its basically squares put together.

If she is an artist, she will apreciate your quilt. You are an artist as well. You use colors in your fabrics and your create gorgeous masterpieces. Alot of times I hear people that are surprised at the cost of a quilt. They don't realize that it takes about 500 hours of work to cut the pieces, sew them, and then quilt through the whole quilt....Then put the binding on them! I try to always keep track of how long it takes me to do a quilt, then to put how many hours it took me on my label. I think it helps people to appreciate the quilt a little more. But don't EVER feel like your quilts aren't up to someone's standards. Each quilt no matter what they look like are a wonderful work of art and is someone expressing themself in a way that they enjoy!

Good luck with the quilt! Will you post pictures when you finish? I love seeing what ideas/colors/patterns people come up with with quilts. I hope someday to get into quilting. I need a bigger house though. For now I have lots of little projects...which I have promised myself to finish before I start any new ones!

Gardengal...in regards to knitting and such, I think the best thing is to find an individual nearby who knows how to knit/crochet who can show you. To learn from a book seems terribly difficult. You could ask around at your workplace or church or even post a sign at your grocery store. I am sure someone would be happy to pass on the art!

I am nearly done with the quilt. It should be finished tonight. I'm not going to quilt it...will just tie it instead. Its a baby quilt. The majority of quilts that I make are baby quilts. They are easy to work with because of their size and it doesn't take too long to do them. It doesn't take a lot of space either. You can quilt most of them using a large hoop...which is what I do. Its harder for me to quilt with a frame. Its just personal preference tho.

I am learning to crochet and quilt and loving every bit of it. Also new to growing flowers and winter sowing. I never thought I would be saying this--I actually am not ready for winter to end!

VERY cute Sunbonnet Sue! I just finished the last baby quilt today. It took me only 8 hours to complete the entire thing....3 days. I'm going to have my husband hold it up so that I can take a picture of it and post it on my website.

Ok, pictures have been taken and posted on my site on the "Latest Quilt" page. Hope you like it. I'm really proud of myself with this quilt.
