I was wondering - wild violets or Viola pedata - does anyone know if there are different varieties of these? I remember as a child something my mother called either "candy violets" or "peppermint violets". I seem to remember them being edible, and the roots gave off a sweet, minty smell when pulled up. Any ideas??

There are many varieties of wild violets. Which colours are you looking for? The purple/blue ones or the yellow ones?
Also are are the leaves lobed?

I found a site that shows pictures and descriptions of several varieties of Viola.
I hope it helps you.

the plant I am looking for is lavender in color and doesn't have many leaves on the stem (if any, I don't remember any). the stem is about 6-8 inches long and very slender. also thanks for the web site. I will check it out.
