Prison Zookeepers - 60 Second Docs · Video

Located in Key West, FL, the farm has been sitting under the Monroe County Detention Facility for over 20 years and is operated with the help of the inmates.

The farm began as a rescue for ducks that were in danger of wandering about a big road right near the jail, according to a video by Marathon Florida. It eventually grew to include more than 100 animals that were "abandoned, abused, confiscated, or donated." While there's typical livestock living on the farm, there are also some exotic animals like sloths, lemurs, and kinkajous.

Yet the animals aren't the only ones being helped in this unique zoo. Inmates working at the Monroe County Detention Facility's zoo are improving themselves from their interaction with the animals, similarly to the inmates training dogs in various other programs throughout the country.
