I have just launched a webcam starring my six-foot cactus, Baby.

Trouble is I don't know what kind of cactus I have!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

I was a littttttttttle grinnnn

But if you don't get any id'ers in this section,
*which I believe you will* but if you don't,
I'll move it to the Mystery Section for you...

Thanks for your reply, Weezie.

I just got an email from someone who suggested that my plant is not a cactus at all! He thinks it's a Euphorbia (a succulent from Africa).

I have always considered my plant to be a cactus, and I would be disappointed to confirm otherwise.

It might very well be..
Take that name they gave you and do a FORUM SEARCH
or a GOOGLE SEARCH at the top,
*make sure the dot is on for the Garden Helper search*
and it should bring something up about it,
seems like we've had something like that kind/variety before..
*although I have to admit I'm not much of a house plant gardener',
I'm in the vegetables and organic sections too much..*

Let us know how you make out?
And I'm sure some others will venture along in the days ahead...

Sure enough, I did a Google Images search for Euphorbia trigona and the pictures look just like my plant! I am the proud owner of an African Milk Tree, also known as a Cathedral Cactus.

Mystery solved, but now I have to revise my site...

How is your plant doing these days?????

Baby is doing just fine, thank you for asking. I added some organic sea soil to her pot recently, but there is still no sign of any flowering...

That is completely amazing, Elizabeth - the catus, the web cam, the web site....It's creative and fun. The text on the web site is quite clever. Can't wait 'till flowering time!! Maybe a little African music will help it along...

I have an African Milk Tree also. I have had it for about 8 years now and it has never bloomed for me. It recently got so tall that it started tipping so my wife trimmed it up and we ended up with about twenty five starters that we have been giving away to friends! I do have another small euphorbia that has been in constant bloom since I got it! The big one is right behind the lantern! And here is a shot of the small one it is the one in the purple pot! This picture was taken in the dead of winter!

Wow, what an impressive specimen, and what a fine collection of succulents. Your Milk Tree seems to be growing up, whereas mine is growing out (maybe I feed it too much sea soil!?) Too bad neither one of us has had it flower yet...

Thanks for your reply.

Cheers,

Elizabeth

Any suggestions on how to move things along with this plant? Three years, and still not a single bud...

Sounds as if you have been doing all that you can to make it bloom. It will surprise you when you least expect it.
