Okay - is this what you all meant by leggy mums? I should pinch them back in the spring?
That's one nice bunch of mums you have there. If you want them to be more compact you can prune them in the spring; then, take any of the cuttings that are 4 inches long and root them so that you have even more plants. I love mums.
Pretty picture, Patty, and the yellow looks great with the Purple Coneflowers. It's amazing how different our growing conditions are...my Coneflowers have been finished for two months.
I top my mum plants a few times up until the end of July and then I let them grow and bud up. This has helped my plants from getting leggy and also helps them cover themselves with flowers come fall.
Rosie - I know! The coneflowers are still blooming here, but when I went on the garden tour in Fargo, just 55 miles from our farm, in June - their coneflowers were almost done blooming! I don't know why, but I'm not complaining.
Mine are just getting ready to bloom .....and my coneflowers we're done blooming in july.I'd have to use summer phlox& mexican mint marigold.I'll have to snap you a shot.
