Hi!
I would just love to keep some potted flowering plants in my office that will bloom all year round. The problem: My office window faces north and I live in VT with very harsh winters, i.e. very little direct sun light. Any suggestions?

peace lily, african violet, oxalis, there are others that do well indoors with flourescent lights.

ebaron, welcome to the forum. I see you just came aboard today. I also see you are from VT. My daughter is living in Barre and her hubby is football coach at Norwich Univ. It is nice there in the summer. HAHA. You get some nasty cold weather.

Coleus will tolerated those conditions too. And they have wonderful foliage. You just have to remember to pinch of the flower spikes when they show up.

I have a north facing sliding glass door that almost all of my plants use that light. I have a Christmas cactus in bloom in that window.. also my african violets bloom like crazy there. I mostly have a lot of different kind of plants there, and no problems with any of them, they seem to prefer it. My kalanchoe, ivy, pothos, purple passion, aloe, cactus, and many others are there.

My vote: peace lily and kalanchoe.
And execpt that it doesn't flower, pothos would do well.
What about a spider plant? I'm not sure of their light requirements, but I've seen them do well in not-so-good light.
