I have an avocado plant that I started in water and have been slowly adding potting soil so that is can adjust and grow "dirt roots" It has been doing great and looking good until the last time I added soil. Now the leaves are drooped and beginning to turn brown. Should I put it back in just water? Or let it be.... I have nursed it along from a pit....I really don't want to lose it now. ters The ONLY difference is the last little bit of soil added. Please help me save it!

Just wondering if the soil is soggy?

Dianna, I started it in water and have been adding a baby food jar of dirt to thw water every week to week and a half. It is VERY soggy, but I was told the best way to get a plant from strictly water to strictly soil is to do it that way or keep the soil very soggy until it can grow "dirt roots".

Once there's roots, just pot it up into a container with some good mix. That's WAY too much moisture for the plant.

I agree Tonya, once it gets a few roots, it will transfer well over to soil. That is how I did mine. That lil guy is ready for his own pot, dryer soil and after a bit, he will grow for you. Just start treating him like a houseplant and I bet he comes around.

I agree with John. I think most plants don't like soggy feet...

He has a single root about the diameter of a toothpick, that is probably 4 inches long.....so in soil and water like my other plants?

Yep, that is about when I switched mine over as well.

Yeah, those really go in water to just get it to root. Once it roots, it's just like any other plant.

Oh yeah, back off of the water...
Whew... once you've got that much soil added,
there's not a need to keep it bogged up...
*if anything, just moist...*

How long have you been adding the soil?
*the time between weaning roots is not that long at all really... the only time you have a huge problem is when the plant has been sitting in water for like years... where you do it more slowly...*

I have only been adding soil for about a month and it wasn't until this past week that it drooped. It is now in some moist, but not soggy soil mixed with a bit of sand. I will let you guys know how it goes....
