Mine hasn't put any peppers out yet to see the
"assorted color" yet...

The purple one I grew 2 years ago was
almost black in color...
It was wierd...

I had some multicolors bell peppers. But it doesn't sound like you are talking about bell peppers. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Are they shaped like hot peppers or bell peppers? I love growing purple vegetables and have grown purple bell peppers- mine were purple outside and green inside- and purple hot peppers called purple cayenne. They are purple and then get yellow then orange then droopy and red at full maturity. You can tell them when they are streaked purple and yellow. So pretty! Anyway those are super duper hot! I feel hotter than habaneros and not very good to eat- all heat and no taste. But they were nice to pickle.

Right now I have about 7 plants growing and a pretty purple.....(About an inch long) They appear to be bell shaped...Another one is dark purple......I think I will get the camera after them 2maro, in case the color changes...So I can watch the process......
They are all editable....?

Cute too......

The "Rainbow" one's will give you anything
from a white(ish)cream color, to purple to
a pale peach/red and different shades like that...

Ciao dodge,

It sounds like you've got Bolivian Rainbow if it's a very small purple pepper on purple stems and foliage. My boyfriend is growing them as well. They take well to being grown in containers as well as the ground. So far, they're all a beautiful purple, but they're supposed to change to reds and oranges as they ripen.

Roumanian Rainbow is a bell pepper that starts out white and ripens to a deep yellow, then orange, then red. Duane's growing that, too. He's got a 15 gal IKEA bucket with 2 Bolivian Rainbows and a Romanian Rainbow in it. He's got them both in the ground as well.

There are MANY purple peppers out there...Lilac Bell, Purple Beauty, Largo Purple, Purple Marconi, Purple Jalapeno, Purple Serrano, and a ton of ornamentals like Bolivian Rainbow.

Cheers,
Julianna

Good Morning, Dodge! wavey

Bolivian Rainbow "Purple" Peppers will go from your purple to yellow, then orange, then finally red when mature. This is an extremely hot pepper- compare it to a Hot Cayenne Pepper if you've ever had one. It's definitely edible... if you like heat. smile

Take Care!

Ciao Dodge,

Put them in your cooked salsas and remove the inner ribs and seeds before you mince them. Wear gloves. The ribs and seeds contain the most heat in chilis. You can also freeze any minced bits for spiking into guacamole.

Beautiful plants, well done!

Something I've always wondered-but for some reason have been given different answers from different nursery people. Argh !
You know those pepper plants we see in the nurseries around Christmas time?
They're labelled "Ornamental Peppers" and are all colors of the rainbow and more. They're very small pointed peppers.
Are those peppers edible?

Deborah:

Ornamental Peppers shouldn't be eaten. They are meant to look pretty.

They are pretty plants though! I LOVE them! luv

OK, thanks.
I guess I just don't see the point in a pepper that is just to look at...... Duh

L0L! Me neither, Deborah. They are cute plants though and they add that punch of red, yellow, and orange at Christmas time when everything else in the house is green...

Deborah.

Dont eat Ornamental peppers..That is poison.

They are just decorations......Only.

Glad you wrote.

Thanks, Dodge.
No, I haven't ever tried one.
The weird thing is, different certified nurserymen giving me different info. Scary ! sca

Deborah,

When you go into those nurserys,, just remember , they are mostly everyday folks like you and I, just working there for a living .
Know nothing most of them....

ANd another thing ......In the nursery they just start the plants.......DOubt if they grow them to mature like you an I do.

dodge.........

Us gardeners and farmers know more about the end results..........Nursery know more about the beginnings........Right???
