I brought this planter back inside for the winter a few days ago. I just love the way this flapjack gets so red in the direct sun during the summer on the deck! Pretty soon it will revert to all green, but it will get red once again next year outside.

Isn't it cool? It's one of my favorite succulents.

Its common name is flapjack, but it's real name is Kalanchoe thyrsiflora.

lynne, have you ever had a problem with powdery mildew on your flapjacks? i have what i think is one, and it has mildew bad on the lower part and where the babies are.

Jiffy - can't say that I've had that problem - yet! shk
Now I'm going to have to look it over more often - don't need that problem on them!

What do you do for it? Is it near any other plants that have it?

I cut the mother off last winter - it was getting way too big for the planter it was in. I put it in a 4 inch clay pot with some rooting hormone on the hardened-off stem, and it's doing well. I didn't take it outside this past summer though, because I wanted to make sure it was rooting in well, before allowing it to change colors.

For a minute there, I thought I was having another one of those bad days when I read Jiffy's post from Todays Topics of Interest! [Linked Image]
(I thought maybe her pancake flour was too old or something, & was going to suggest that she throw it out!)

I love the red in the flapjack as well. It was much more pink the last time I saw a pic of it. Looks good!
