Those are absolutely beautiful. I have never seen those before. I need to start looking around a little more and finding more plants like that.
They look like hibiscus to me.......Mine dont look like that ???????????
dodge
Wow!
They are beautiful, wish I could grow something that nice.
Dodge, that red one does look like a regular hibiscus flower but look at the leaves, it's a mallow alright! Looks like something's been eating the leaves pretty good, wonder what did that because it looks like some of my leaves at my house. Alankhart you've done a great job with your mallow hibiscus, you should be proud and show them off! I have the cream colored one with the redish/purple interior neck and love it. I fertilized mine with compost tea and it set twenty five blooms in one week! Can't wait to see how big they get if they bloom at the same time. Could be a disaster or it could be gorgeous, who knows? I love what compost tea has done for my garden since learning how to make it from this site.
Terry in Texas
Dodge: Rose Mallows are in the hibiscus family, but they usually have larger blooms, sometimes as big as dinner plates.
Terry: My red one (Lord Baltimore) is huge. It gets over 6 ft. tall, 5 ft. wide and tons of blooms. One of the ones I didn't show is purple (Fantasia) and it's almost as big.
twwright, how do you make compost tea?
Hey Alan,
I'm a definite fan of the lord baltimore. That was gorgeous. My neighbor planted one of the dinner plate hybiscus in her yard this year and the blooms are amazing. I walk over there every few days to get a good look at them.
