Any idea what this may become? I do not think a monarch since it does not have white stripes. The kids have found dozens of them. If they will become something cool, what can I do to keep them fed until they make cocoons?
Triss this looks like the wollybear My grandson had to write a report on in school it does look striped but doesn't start out that way
http://www.all-creatures.org/pica/glf-woollybear.html then it turns into the isabella tiger moth

These are not at all fuzzy so I thought for sure they were not that. Was kinda hoping for a really cool butterfly.
hmmm
I could have sworn I had the Audubon butterfly book here....birds, warblers, birds, birds, sparrows, birds, hawks, herbs, ducks,...
nope. Not in my little insect guide. I'll look when I go to work. Where did you find it? Type of plant??
They are all over the grassy area near the tunnel that goes under our drive.
Dont see it in the audubon field guide.
I found it. Papito sent me a link and in looking through its pics I found that I have a Cinnebar caterpillar. It becomes the Cinnebar Moth wish is a red moth. We have seen these moths all over the place here.
