What makes perfectly circular chew marks in my leaves, is it the grasshoppers? Inquiring minds want to know! Specifically it's my western redbud. THANKS!

There's sure a lot of them this year, and a number of my plants are looking the like the "Grasshopper Damage" picture.

carpenter bees make a perfect circle cut out of leave. grasshopper damage is not circular, it is more irregular. The grasshopper sit on leaves edge and eat down the leaf edge.

REALLY? Carpenter bees eat leaves? I did not know that! Thanks for the help! If I remember I'll post a pic of the damage so you can get a better idea. I keep forgetting to get a pic.

They dont eat the leaves, they cut the circles out and use them for to make cells that they rear their young in.
