I have a few really cute pots that lack drainage holes. I also have a bad habit of overwatering plants.

What can I do to use these without killing my plants? Should I stick to a particular type of plant for these? (There is no way to add holes to these pots - it's either use them as is or not at all)

My mom told me to put rocks in the bottom for the water to pool around, but I didn't have much luck with that - although I might be better now because I'd be a bit more careful. Still worries me though. Also, is there a particular soil I should use to help keep me from overwatering any plants I put in these?

I wouldn't use them for plants, there is no plant that would do good in them. Unless you could drill some holes in the bottom of them. At least 4 per pot about 1/2 inch in diameter.

Hmmm, I remember reading about these pots a few times, I think someone suggested you put pebbls or something on the botom of the pot, then put the plant inside the pot that's in a plasic pot.

Ok, that seems confusing, sorry bout that. Let me rephrase, it might make more sense this way...
Put the plant in a plastic pot then put the plastic pot inside the nice pot, so basically you have one pot inside another. But before you put the plastic pot inside, put pebbles or something inside the nice pot so when the water comes out from the drainage holes in the plastic pot, it has somewhere to go instead of water logging the roots.

kenny already made the suggestion that i was going to.

i always use plastic pots (which have the drain holes) and then cover them up with the nice ceramic planters.

i water, and then take the plastic pot out of the ceramic one and discard any water that has dripped through the drain holes.

Drill holes! You can get ceramic and glass drill bits in the hardware store. I put holes in everything, I grow mostly xerics and won't put them in anything without at least one hole.

I have had pots like this and I use them in my kitchen to hold my utensils (the jar was perfect) and to put my gum in and crackers in.
I tried plants in them but they just got over watered and almost killed them.

But I would use them as decoration around the house
