I had to bring mine inside to save it from whoever has decided to ruin my garden. Does anyone know how short I can cut this. Also will it survive inside?

You can cut it as short as the lowest set of leaves on a stem. I do so every spring on mine to prevent woody center growth; they will bounce back quickly.
Indoors though they may grow lanky and sparse, but will thicken up again once back outside in spring with a pruning. If you are at least zone 5 they should winter outside fine in a container also.

How are they doing now?

They are doing exactly what you said they would. You must be a prophetess. I have some woody growth and the old leaves did turn brown. But there is new growth all over the plant. A bit lankier than what it had while it was growing outside but still healthy. I do need to prune it and I really appreciate the information you gave me about doing that.
