Hi, I'm new to the board & have a quick question. Can daylilies be dug up and stored for re-planting next season? Like you would to a Gladiolus up here in the northeast. I know they don't need to be, but I needed to move some due to some new construction on the house & I want to know if I "have to" replant now, or can I store in a cool, dry place until spring? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you can dig them up and store them, or you could plant them in pots until you're ready to plant them back in the ground next year.

Yep, they can over winter nicely in pots/containers...
I've had some in two different types of
containers, and they worked nicely.....

i tossed mine in a open box with a little dirt one year, ment to replant em and forgot, they did better than the box did

When you pot them do you keep them inside or outside?

OUTSIDE, in the snow, cold and freezing temps..
It's Buffalo here for gosh sakes....
They got snow already and it's only the middle of
October..

Honestly, they're a hardy breed..
If you just put them in a pot, fill them with
plain ordinary garden soil, *I wouldn't do those bagged soils, they're too rich for them* and maybe some mulched/chopped up leaves around the base of the pot and put under a big tree canopy or by something to maybe block the wind..
but mine are out and they've faired nicely...
