I found this outside and had never seen one like this before, anyone know what it is, I would guess it is some sort of caterpillar??? It was about 3" long.

It's an Imperial Moth Caterpillar .

Jeesh, Cindy, I just went to that link and I'm fascinated with all the gross pictures! :p I can't stop staring at all the gross, disgusting bugs!

It is so freaky that those things turn into butterflies.
Blows my mind!

When we found this one I thought for sure it was some kind of alien.
It's in a cocoon now!

I've been reading about your "alien"! So funny and freaky.

By the way , it's a chrysalis for butterflies , not a cocoon.

I've been watching too many alien movies!
