I bought a Cape honeysuckle (Tecomaria Capensis) this past summer and the hummingbirds really took to it. Has anybody else tried growing it?
Not me. But the hummers loved my RED Lilliput Zinnias, Red Cannas, and I have seen them packed by the hundreds into Jewelweed patches in swampy areas, in late Summer.
I keep a small patch of jewelweed. But they seem to prefer the salvia coccinea and gartenmeister bonstead fuchsia.
I have a Cape Honeysuckle, which out here we call a trumpet vine. The hummers like it OK, but what mine really love is a flower called penta.
When it was blooming, they were at it all day.
The penta also attracted more butterflies than I have ever seen in one place.
I have pentas too. Yeah, common names can be confusing. Around here they call Campsis radicans - trumpet vine. Phygelius capensis is one that produces quite a bit of nectar too.
