HI. Does anyone know much about companion planting? I am starting my first veggie garden and for pest/animal control I would like to know which plants work well next to eachother for keeping pests away. In the very least, I am looking for safe pest repellant, because I happen to have a very curious dog who enjoys muching on just about everything her eyes can and she can reach. smile Thanks everyone. smile

P.S. smile These are the crops I have started in cups: corn, gr. pepers, beets, watermelon, zucchini, gr. beans, carrots, dill, strawberries, tomatoes, and cucumbers...I think that's all. smile

Princessbride,
Hello and Welcome to The Garden Helper's Forum!!!
We are very glad you found us....

If you do a FORUM SEARCH and type in
COMPANION PLANTING....There should be
some entries on it...

It's kinda late in the part of USA I'm in
so, I'll click on my email notification button
and get back to this thread in the morning....

I'm pretty sure in a few of my posts,
I've got a list of what can go by what...

but if you don't find it, I'll hunt it down for you in the morning....

Do you have regular~ground level gardens
or raised beds???

Here is a helpful site.

companion plants

I would suggest going to a bookstore & browsing their books until you find one you like.

I did a lot of searching about companion planting online this year. There are tons of websites, many of which give great little charts listing which plants do well together and which do not. I found these ones helpful:

http://www.attra.org/attra-pub/complant.html

http://www.gardenguides.com/TipsandTechniques/vcomp.htm

http://www.growitgold.com/resources/companionplants.shtml

One of the ways I searched was to enter the name of the vegetable or herb I was trying to grow, along with the key words "companion plants." I usually was able to pull up websites that listed good companion plants to go with just what I wanted to grow.
