We've been having a great deal of problems with woodchucks burrowing under our shed and also eating all my perennials - that is, the ones the deer don't get first. We borrowed a trap from a neighbor and this is what we caught the first morning:

The mamma and 1 baby.
Can you make out the mamma on the left and the baby on the right? It was hard to take pictures through the trap.

Later that day another baby was in the trap.
My husband transports them to a really nice area up in the mountains nearby with a nice river running by - they should be very happy there. Duh - he let it out.
This morning, very early, we caught a baby racoon that was screaming its head off and the parent was hitting the trap trying to get it out and screaming. Don ran down and let it out. thumbup

All we really want is to get the father, so he can stop having these families here that dine on my goodies! mad

i'm so citified. I'd be out their feeding and caring for the pests.

Good luck with your relocation project.

it must have been funny and cute(up to a certain point) to see the babis play on and around the cage all morning.

but we also can see how nature and maternal instinct is strong when we think of the parent beating on the cage to let their young out.

it s also very nice of you two to care for those little critters ,if i may call them like that.

that was just some poetic thoughts amid all life stress,to show that sometimes one has to back up and listen ,look at nature around...oh yaa! and ladies ant gents that was brought to you by a girl that works beside roaring jet planes... laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? laugh

I have never seen one of those critters before. You have a "family" of them? I bet they do wreak havoc on the garden. At least you are giving them a fighting chance by relocating them instead of euthanizing them! That is very compassionate of you.

If you end up with a skunk in your trap, you might could call Cindy to come get it out for you. I don't think she is afraid of anything. Even getting sprayed!

That's definitely going to happen! I wouldn't go near that!

When my husband released the baby racoon, the parent had already run away. The baby just ran out of the trap, turned around, sat on it's haunches and stared at my husband for the longest time! laugh laugh Duh He was afraid to move, in fear that the little critter would go after him. I was watching this through the window and laughing my a$$ off! Just hysterical!!!

Yes, they do dig HUMONGOUS holes - mostly by our shed where they also burrow underneath. Our neighbor, who loaned us the trap, has a very large hole by her front door from these varmints. She is in her 80's and doesn't have patience to deal with the trap, so they continue to dig and dig and dig.

A few minutes ago, my husband saw the remaining baby (not so small anymore! :p ) sunning itself on the ramp to the shed. He went down and set the trap again - hopefully it will be caught soon. Haven't seen the father in a week or so - hope he's not out there making ANOTHER FAMILY!!! thumbup Already took him up into the mountains to get reunited with his mommy and 3 siblings. Have fun, little one! flw
