since you know a lot about radishes maybe you can answer this. I planted all the same kind and some of them are sooo hot and others aren't. What's up with that?

I'm not LMT, but lack of water causes hot-tasting and pithy radishes. I tried growing these the 'square foot' way and had much better success. 16 plants per square foot watering weekly, 1/4 cup approx/ per plant. twice weekly in hot weather. Hope this helps!

Some hot and some not? I have the same thing. I think it's because it's a bit too hot already (mid 80's past 10 days) and water doesn't distribute uniformly in the soil/some grow closer to the surface. I like a hot radish so I don't view it as a problem but it suggests that I can plant earlier. Not an expert, just easy to grow and fun to eat.

I didn't know that about radishes thankyou. I like the mild ones. Hummmmm, I wonder what I can crowd so I can get some lol. Well if the counselling works maybe I can go back to work doing something.

This is what I suspected. I've always waited to early to mid May to plant when I could start them in mid to late April through mid May. They would just get progressively hotter.

So, given they can tolerate a frost Hoop, you can plant and havest the last of the sweet radishes and replace them in the garden with a summer veggie.

It's not because of lack of rain. We've had buckets lately and it's going to rain again today. Gotta get out there before it does. I like them hot too. I do wonder if it's got something to do with depth because of the rain and the way it washes across the garden there has been some erosion so some of the seeds ended up deeper than the others. Anyway, I like them either way. Let's all have a salad.
