I would like to root cuttings from a neighbor's hydranga and gardenia - would appreciate any suggestions.
Hydrangeas are very eay to grow from cuttings. Take a cutting about 6-8" from a non-flowering stem. It may root raster if you dip the end in rooting hormone. Stick the cutting in a potting soil medium and water well. Some people cover them in clear plastic bags, but I find it really isn't necessary. Then I put mine in a shady location outside. Keep it watered but not soggy, and in about 6 weeks it should be rooted.
The only thing I do different is lighten the potting soil with perlite. Use this years growth and trim off a few of the bottom leaves.
thanks for your help - will try it this week
