I was just surprised to see that some chives are sprouting out of the ground in my new yard! (I just moved in August) I scooped some up and stuck 'em in a small terra cotta pot, now what? I'd love to grow them in my mom's kitchen!!!
Add potting soil, quick quick lol
actually I think they are very easy to grow. let them dryout abit between watering and I use a water soluable fertilizer once every 2 to 4 weeks and you should be fine. Mine like a sunny window.
I think chives are probably one of the easiest things to grow. I leave mine outside all year...they are pretty hardy as far as herbs go. I have garlic chives that I just love. So far I have never had to fertalize them ...they just keep multiplying.
I have chives too!!!
I started out with one small clump in a pot.
I now have about 7 clumps..
Never do a thing to them..
Plain garden dirt.
No fert.
No nothing..
Planted 'em, and eat 'em!
I leave the flower heads on them,
because I wanted them to make more
clumps... you'll see little tiny
black seeds on them, leave the heads
where they are and where the head fell
over on to the dirt, is where the new
clump will grow next year...

***Vanessa,
