but what is it?
I thought orb weaver, or banana...it's about 6" or more from tip to tip. Sorry I couldn't get closer -- Helen was freaking out over it and she was taking the pic - I tried to get closer but she was yelling at me not to
Is it
this ? There are several kinds. Just look and you will know which one it is. Look on the second page about middle ways under argiope.
Dianna
Hmm I dunno Dianna...the yellow markings make it look different than that one...but I have a bunch of pictures to browse through now! Thanks!
Black and Yellow Argiope / Argiope aurantia I call them the Alien Spiders...
if you look at the black and yellow,
it looks like an alien painted on...
They're one of the one's that can
and will catch Japanese Beetles..
EXCELLENT! That's definitely the one. Very cool! Woohoo!! Thanks!
We had 7 of them in my little space in the middle
of my property last summer... the kids got a
kick out of it everyday to go check them and
see how and what they were doing.
The littlest wasn't too crazy to get too close
but the oldest is getting braver as long as
he stands behind mom to look...
I love them in my garden and wish more would come..
I didn't get to see any this year, but I am
seeing a ton of huge spiders with webs catching
lot's of goodies...
I love spraying water on their webs or the dew
in the morning time and seeing them stand out.
Sooooooooo pretty..
Commonly called a garden spider. Hence always seen in gardens.
Hey, I found one in my yard this morning.. took a couple snaps of it, posted in the critter forum. Mine looks a wee bit different, but I'm sure it's the same family. It even has the zigzag in it's web. They really do look like there's an alien on thier back! But mine is just all stripey.
