You have never seen more pitiful tomato plants in your life, like mine! They are barely green and they are so tall and spindly, I was happy to see at least one bud on one of the plants. If I get even one Tomato I will be happy....

Didn't you have your tomato plants
inside for a long time??
I'd give 'em a chance to thicken up a bit..

*What kind of container do you have them in?
*What kind of soil did you use?
*What kind of fertilizers are you using, if any?

My tomatoes aren't in the ground even yet,
everything should be completely in by this week.
But I do have some nice looking plants..thus far..

Ya know, our weather has been funky...cool and rainy, then really hot and muggy and now it's really cool and damp... so, let the middle of summer hit and see how things go??

Let me know those questions above, some of those
things may take into account for smaller sized plants..

they are in a pretty good size, plastic container, My mom brought me one of her plants, that I had started for her, and her pot is smaller, but her PLant is BEAUTIFUL!! Looks like a little jungle!!!

weezie- the soil we bought is called "sta-green".
the ONLY numbers on that bag say "GUARANTEED ANALYSIS .05 -.03 -.03" it says that it is for Vegetables, especially tomato's. But it looks very woody!!!

As far as fertilizer, I use Miracle gro, tomato plant food.

When you repotted them up, did you
plant them deeper in the pot/container
than it was before???

That's a good thing if you did...
(*or can re~do*) it helps the plant
get a really good root system going
to support the plant and fruiting..
**The stem will produce roots all along
it no matter how deep you plant it..

The soil does have fertilizer in it, when
you give me those first set of numbers..
Then when you say you use Miracle gro...
~~It's like over doing it on the fertilizers..

Whe doing a fruit producing plant, look for the
middle number to be higher...*my personal favorite is Schultz Plus 10~60~10.*
Helps with the flowering and fruiting process and the roots a bit...

How long have you had them from inside the house
to outside the house???

they have been outside almost 3 weeks now. So i should probably stop giving them miracle grow. I did't replant those plants I just mounded the dirt up higher around the stem. That was about a day before I put them out. The color of them is bordering on yellow!! I mean they are barely green!! LOL!! its not funny, but I can't help it..I am going to kill a WEED!!

How's the drainage??

well weezie we have been having a storm every day here. So they are plenty watered and the drainage is great!! When I do water them they get about 1/2 gallon each from the tap. You know I was just thinking, I have city water! Do you think all the chemicals in the water could harm them?? mom has Well water and hers looks fantastic!!!!!!

Sometimes when it rains alot, it washes the nutrients out of the soil so fast that the plant
doesn't have time to absorb any of the nutrients,
hence the yellowing..
That's the time to add a little extra nitrogen
to the soil...

And I water mine with a combo of rain water and town water.. but, not sure on the end of it....

a high middle number??
Or bone meal is a good, slow organic one too*
And how's your sunshine for them??

Thanks for everyones help!! I will try the suggestions. They are flowering now, This would be a good time to Fertilize? I don't know what it is, but I REALLY think the Dirt we bought is bad! There was WAYYYYYYY to many chunks of wood in it! NEVER again, I'll tell ya that! If I can take some Pics I will upload them,,,

I know your pain of bad dirt,
The last load we got still smells...
Like musty, water, pond, swamp....
I don't know, can't put my finger on it...
Wasnt' too happy with it either,
just won't order any more from there... :p

It's always okay to give them a shot or two
of fertilizer's if you like...
Just find one with a high middle number on the container...personal fav is Schultz Plus 10~60~10.

The middle number is for your flowering and fruit producing number..

I don't know if you've been getting this second time around heat wave we've been gettting,
but always keep your soil/dirt moist before applying any fertilizers...
and do it early in the morning before the sun
rays beat down on the leaves, you want it to
have time to dry on the leaves..

And you can't go wrong by working into the soil
at the end of the season with some Alfafa Meal,
Bone and/or Blood Meal, Compost, Manures'..etc..
And a cover crop does excellant for your soil as well... Like a red clover, winter rye, etc..
To cover the soil, *the clover will put nitrogen back into your soil via the roots and then you can till it into the soil in the spring as a
"Green~Manure"....****just let it sit for about *I think* 4~6 weeks to decompose before planting
any plant life****
