I have a nice little hibiscus that I got from a friend. But every time it gets a bud, before it opens, it turns yellow and falls off. A few of the leaves in isolated locations turn completely yellow also, but once I pick them off, the plant looks fine.
I really want to see one of my flowers! Help!

Pursimone,
According to my wife she says if the leaves at the top are yellow, it's getting too much water. If the leaves at the bottom are yellow, it's getting too little water. I hope this helps! We have one that has really nice flowers even though some of our leaves on top have turned yellow.

I don't know about your weather in South Africa or the soil quality. Maybe a little fertilizer? My wife isn't a gardening expert, but she loves her hibiscus!

Good Luck!

Considering it's winter in South Africa right now, could it be too cold for it? Even indoors, I've heard from friends that it can get quite chilly.

Thank you for replying Bunny and Katy. I DON'T know why there is a ton of posts saying "please". I only posted once frown Must be a glitch or something.
Anyway the yellow leaves are randomly spread over the plant. Do mealybugs make leaves turn yellow? I squished a few on the plant already. The soil is dryish so maybe I should water more often.
And, I live in South AMERICA in Guyana. It is NEVER winter here!!!! (as I sit here sweating) wink
Thanks again!
