This would be a great time to prepare your bed for planting, as long as the soil is not frozen. Dig down deeply and add soil ammendments like compost, manure and/or humus as needed. It will depend on your average last day of frost to determine when you should start planting. You don't want to plant too early and have a late frost kill or damage your plants.

As soon as you get all that digging done, it would be a good time to have your soil tested to see what nutrients you need to add to it. You might be able to find a kit to do this at a garden supply store or call Allen Tishmarsh (sp?) smile Then you will be ahead of all the rest of us here in the northern US.
